The Rugby League Powers have definitely knocked on and failed dismally in the promotion of the game at international level. I'll probably watch it on some dodgy stream or even the Irish pub in Chiang Mai for some of the games. i would like to see how PNG get on, as it is the national game over there but looking forward to the English players from the NRL coming back and playing in different conditions.

It was even worse in 2000, though it wasn't helped bya record wet spell. I remember watching England v Australia at Twickenham and being drenched from the queue outside and freezing.

Well, I've set to record the first game, plus Ireland Fiji and Scotland Tonga; none of them are on live on Astro (nor presumably, True Sports). I don't know if the BBC will have live radio coverage

Uh, Kiwi here. Hope I don't get shouted down.

Is John Hopoate playing? We need him to plug a few holes.

Well ... at least two of us understood that comment ... cheesy.gif

BTW ... his son isn't a half bad player.

From an Australian perspective, in SE QLD it's being shown on 7-Mate @ 11pm

But, in Sydney, when it should be on at 10pm ... no screening ... not on any channel ... blink.png

According to a search of the program guide for True Visions, telecast of the Rugby League World Cup will be on Channel ASN (157) and also on Channel 105 with a couple of games on 115.

True DSTV has something scheduled tonight on channel 157, ASN, at 2030 and 2230, but it doesn't match the schedule posted on ASN's website. So who knows which is right.

Which one? He has a few running around in the game.

So, looks like no chance of watching this live on cable ha?

Shiity stream and beers by myself watching the game, not as fun. Will get a kick out of the Aussies smashing the Poms though.

I read this morning it was on at midnight on 7-mate in Sydney so presumed it must kick off our time around 8pm? Is that correct?

Anyone in Phuket gonna be watching the game out anywhere? i'll drop by for a couple of beers.

Channel 819 on Astro, Astro Supersports Plus, or something. Show starts 1945 THAI.

I'd better go and get some dinner, and some Tigers for this evening...

England faces Australia in the first-up match.

I'm usually confident of an Australian win in Australian conditions ... but less so in the cold English mud.

It's in Wales under cover.. I'll be there. Unfortunately, I didn't realise West Ham were at Swansea the next day when I bought the train tickets or I would have spent the whole weekend in South Wales.

It'll be interesting to see how many turn up to this. How many fans from Yorks'Lancs/Cumbria will come down and how many locals? will they turn up to watch a couple of foreign teams on their patch. A lot of Union fans like League and the game seems to be growing a bit. .No doubt there'll be a few kangaroos in Cardiff, as well. Bit of shame that James 'Nasher' Graham isn't playing but he could be England's secret weapon in the latter rounds Were the tickets pricey TW? What are the odds on a WHU/England Double winlaugh.png

Also on True Sport 6, channel 105: 2030: Australia - England, 2230: Wales - Italy

A massive thank you for that. It's made my day, as they saythumbsup.gif

When ever I want to know the time of the event, and I'm not sure, I go to a betting site.

Australia's on Daylight saving now. The betting closes @11.30pm, which makes that 8.30pm Thai time kickoff.

Maybe go early and get an extra pint or two in ... drunk.gif

OH ... if anyone's interested ...

Aus $1.18 - Eng - $5

But, if you think that's short odds ...

Tonga $1.10 - Scotland - $7

The closest round is PNG vs France

Oh ... they aren't bother to quote NZ vs Samoa ... just that Samoa have a 37.5 point start.

Just hope that the Aussies get off to a winning start.

I would take that 37.5 start to Samoa, they actually have a pretty good team.

An entertaining start to the World Cup, Australia coming away deserved winners; England will need to improve to get past New Zealand in the Semi-Finals to line up a repeat at Old Trafford on St Andrew's Night.

Ray French is getting quite beside himself watching the Wales Italy game with one-eyed Welsh git Jonathan Davies. I'm surprised that Lee Briers isn't playing - he's a veritable talisman and he can kick the ball through the eye of a needle.

Wales 12 - 14 Italy as half time approaches.

Well besides the first 25mins, what a <deleted> game of league. Even 10-0 down we all knew Oz would come home in the second half. As an Ozzie though, very dissapointed with England's last 30 mins. So many careless penalties, the sought you see when you have given up. Down by six, game in balance, stupid penalties.

Man of the match Thurston? <deleted>! What did he do in all honesty. My best on field went to the losing side in G. Burgess. Had an absolute blinder, his elder brother 2nd of England's best. Goes to show what coming down to Oz and playing in our comp does for one's talent.

I can only say, lets get another 10 Poms down to play in the NRL, then we will see real international league. Great for the game, as for blooding more islanders that NZ doesn't claim as theirs. There is still hope!

That is my last game watching the Roos's until they face the might of NZ. Some crackers of games in the minnows coming up though.

I did enjoy the game ... but <deleted> was it with the ground ... blink.png

High mow height encourages a forwards game and the chunks were flying up making footing difficult.

Home Ground advantage, well played to by the host country.

Don't forget tonight's games ...

PNG vs France

NZ vs Samoa

They are on a bit later though ...

I've set to record the PNG France game, to watch on Monday evening. That should be a good game. I think NZ Samoa may be a bit one-sided.

I'm watching that PNG vs France ... so different.

PNG ... Park Football played with the pride of a Nation.

Not a lot of style, but full of heart the boys who live in the tropics.

The French ... dirty B'*******s ... lay in the tackle, slow the play down ... all the tricks.

They aren't getting booed ... but the PNG guys are getting cheered.

SC ... 1/2 time and it's a close game ... thumbsup.gif ... and in one of the tries ... most unusual ball movement ... cheesy.gif

NewZealand vs Samoa

That was undoubtedly one of the most enjoyable games I've watched for a long, long time.

It had everything.

Tries ... 13 of them

Video Umpires with fat fingers

Passion, sumos, earthquakes, monster trucks

and the crowd ... love that singing.

A coach killer ... superstar, breaks the line, crosses the line and then ... facepalm.gif

Actually ... it was missing one thing.

Samoa ... gosh they need a kicker!

Great Game ... I'm still ... biggrin.png

The ground was about 2/3rds full. Loads of fans from all sides except Italy. The Welsh people around me seemed knowledgable as well. I paid £60 or a lower tier seat in the corner. I was disappointed with the seat. In 2011 I paid the same for a club Wembley seat. I like Cardiff though. Much nicer place than I expected.

In the first half the French played quite briskly, and it was the PNG who were giving away penalties for lying on.

I'm still watching - PNG's second try well worked within a few minutes of half time. From what I've read on the internet, I'm sorry I never recorded the NZ - Samoa game now.

SC

PNG much livelier in the second half, though... And France drop a goal with seventeen minutes to go.

Samoa ... TRY !

That will do me.

I'm an honorary Samoan tonight.

One-sided ... but a great game.

Bloody great 2nd half. I was glued to my shiity stream watching it. The intensity of the runs from Masoi and a couple of the other Samoan forwards was brilliant. For a moment I thought, just thought they would do it.

A lot of rust in that Kiwi machine, rather rattled at times, will only get better as the comp goes on.

Looking forward to tonights game. Go Fiji
