I arrived in Bangkok after a long flight (Yes I was sleepy and following Issue is partly my fault...) and showed my Passport to the customs.

Instead of stamping my Tourist Visa (60 Days) that I got from my home country (Switzerland) he did give me the normal 30 day Stamp.

After those 30 Days I will have to do a VISA Run.

My Question:

Can I get the stamp for my Tourist Visa which was Issued in Switzerland on a land boarder like Poipet / Vientianne or do I have to do a "New Arrival" by Plane to make Use of my 60 Days Tourist Visa?

Thanks a lot in Advance!

Thank you for your advise.

Im in Bangkok and a I know that Immigration in Bangkok is quite a pain. So my Idea is to use the 30 days and afterwards do a Visa Run by bus to get a stamp for the 60 day Visa which I already own.

Entering by land or air is the same for a tourist visa. You could do a border run if you wanted to. Bangkok immigration has a special desk for stamp errors. You probably would be in and out quickly if you went there.

Thanks ubonjoe,

I will do a boarder run by bus to make full use of my initial 30 days plus 60days & 30 days extension on my tourist VISA. In total results of 120 days with a single entry VISA :-)

But good to know there is a special desk for stamp errors @Immigration just in in case...

@Steve187

I did not want to save the Visa for a later entry which as you mentioned should not be possible.

The officer did just not see it and gave me the "30 Stamp" instead.

Actually doesnt matter much, I will leave after 30 days for a Cambodia Visa Run and will get the stamp for the 60 Days Tourist Visa on my return to Thailand.

Firstly did you fill in your reference number from your 60 day Visa on your Arrival Card?

If you did not then they will automatically stamp for 30 days

This exact same thing happened to me

Here is what I did:

On departure you will be sent to the section that deals with overstayers - one of the Customs Officers will manually rectify everything and just leave a small donation of 100 baht in their collection box

You apparently didn't notice the error until you went on overstay and got caught by immigration on departure. OP will not have this problem because he will be leaving before his permit to stay runs out.

30 + days from now, would you kindly let us know if you successfully received your 60 days' permission to stay upon your next entry to Thailand.

Why would he not get a 60 day entry from his valid and unused tourist visa?

Why do you keep insisting to do a border run after ubonjoe has told you the easy way? A boarder run will give you only a 15 day entry stamp. Immigration in Bkk is MUCH easier as ubonjoe has said already. You want a 15 day entry stamp?

He has a valid visa so will obtain a 60 day entry.

IS THIS IN ERROR? NOT APPLICABLE?

Sometimes immigration does allow it. But you will never be sure till you are actually at the border. Recently they seem more relaxed about it, but the officer can deny it and doesn't have to allow it.

In this case he is already in Thailand so there is no question - he can use that visa for the next entry if it has not expired.

Yes I did, thats why I did not check the stamps afterwards.

@All

I will do a boarder run after my 30 (12 more days to go) days and will let you know if they accept my 60 days Tourist Visa when doing the re-entry to Thailand!

You should have used it.

I realize there were two mistakes, one made by you, and another mistake made by the immigration officer who should have checked your passport anyhow.

They may see it as a mistake and simply give you the change to just use that 60 day visa.

But then they may not see it as a simple mistake, they may regard it as a deliberate attempt hide it from immigration and refuse to honor it for that reason.

Frankly, it all depends on the mood of the immigration officer if you wait for a month and show up entering from Cambodia with that month old visa.

It's possible they won't like that and refuse you the use of that visa.

You should have realized the error and pointed it out before you left the immigration booth before you left.

Each visa has a NUMBER on it, Immigration can trace that number to where and when it was issued by that number.

If a supervisor somewhere in immigration has access to that database, he or she will be able to see exactly where and when you got that visa.

Do you still have the boarding pass stub from your ticket? Probably not, most people just throw them away. But that boarding pass stub can verify your story of when you arrived and the TIME that flight arrived.(by checking flight number and arrival manifest).

From that info they can tell who was on duty when you arrived, what booth you went through and the time ,. If it was an honest mistake they MAY simply fix the mistake.

But if, for some reason they expect you of deliberately not showing that visa they may be angry about it.

And they can simply refuse that visa, they can say it was voided by your deliberate action of not showing it to them when you entered, and therefor that visa is now invalid.

I'm not saying it will happen, but if they are angry enough they COULD refuse it as now invalid.

You should go to immigration here in Bangkok and tell them you just realized the mistake .... could it please be fixed and how?

They could cancel the 30 day entry and give you a 60 day visa entry as they should have.

But frankly, I don't know for sure what will happen if you attempt to enter overland form Cambodia with that visa.

You may not have a problem, but if they realize the error, they may be upset with you for (in their mind anyhow) as trying to fool them on your original entry to Thailand.

I just don't know what immigration will say if you use that month old visa with evidence in your passport that you already entered Thailand on a visa exempt 30 day stamp entry.

I did the same, I forgot to fill in the arrival form correctly. Thankfully I noticed in the airport and they corrected my mistake.

Short update on my Visa Run Experience.

Booked the Thaivisaservice to Ban Laem border with thaivisaservice. Pleasant Driver, pleasant service, pleasant boarder (compared to poipet).

My Single Entry Tourist Visa was stamped witouth any issue.

No problems at all.
