Prison links to major drug bust in Yannawa
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Former drug convict Suriyo Chanmonkol, 28, has been arrested along with seven kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and 90,000 yaba pills, worth Bt30 million, in Bangkok's Yannawa district, deputy city police chief Pol Maj-General Thitirat Nonghanpitak said yesterday.

Police allege the arrest followed an investigation into a northeastern prison's drug-trafficking ring that stored the drugs in a Bangkok apartment. Police reportedly staked the place out until they arrested Suriyo in a sedan, along with 50,000 yaba pills. The subsequent search of an apartment found the rest of the narcotics.

Suriya, released from Nakhon Ratchasima Prison last year, said he was hired by and had taken phone instructions from a former cellmate to transport drugs at Bt30,000 per time.

Relocation of Parliament may be delayed
Praphan Jindalertudomdee
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The launch of the new Parliament complex may have to be postponed because the Yothin Burana School will not be able to relocate in time, Democrat MP Boonyod Sooktinthai said. He is also spokesman for the House committee on parliamentary affairs.

He said the school could not relocate in December as scheduled because its new facilities are not ready yet.

The previous government had selected an Army plot at the Kiak Kai intersection as a site for the new Parliament complex. Chai Chidchob, then-Parliament president signed a contract with the Army and presided over the ground breaking ceremony for construction.

The school has said it needs another Bt109 million for its new buildings in addition to the Bt1 billion the government has already approved.

The two have been accused of skewing the House quorum and voting records by using their electronic identification cards.

Constitution Court asked to determine legality of charter amendment
By English News

BANGKOK, Oct 4 – Parliament Speaker Somsak Kiatsuranont has sought a decision from the Constitution Court on the legality of the composition of the Senate, as ruled in the charter amendment.

The bill on the charter amendment was passed by Parliament and Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has submitted it to His Majesty the King for royal endorsement.

A group of legislators earlier called for an injunction to block the parliamentary passage of the charter amendment, concerning the clause which calls for total elections of all 200 senators, instead of the present system of some being appointed.

Mr Somsak asked the Constitution Court to decide if the charter amendment as it concerns the composition of the Senate is in breach of the Constitution, as charged by the opposing legislators. (MCOT online news)
