Provisional Teacher's License Still Available?

Featured Replies

Hello and Sawasdee klhrap,

I've read and heard so many different stories regarding the provisional teacher's license, good for two years. Not long ago somebody of the MoE had decided that a teacher's license is no more needed.

Then another one. No more provisional TL available. I'm a little bit confused and in the middle of a crisis, as our house got hit by a flood.

I'd deeply appreciate any information ,what's going on right now, as I'm planning to take on another job, which would require a new provisional TL.

Can't do that if I don't get the waiver. Is it possible that I'll have to go for the test? Thanks for any information that makes sense.-wai2.gif

Policy per website is still that a teaching license or waiver is required.

I've read about possible changes in the teacher license requirements but I've never read plans about the provisional teaching permit being abolished. The most current requirements can be found here.

The changes compared to the September 2012 requirements are that now 'no more than two provisional teaching permits' explicitly is mentioned and 'studying for an education degree' is added to be eligible for a second provisional teaching permit.

Policy per website is still that a teaching license or waiver is required.

What does the waiver entail?

Thanks a lot for your response.. I'd be good until March 2015, but I'm planning to look for a job in my province. That would mean that I'd automatically have to apply for a new provisional TL, I'd guess.

We just got hit by a serious flood and live at a friend's house. When will the MoE and the TCT make up their minds that foreigners who're working and living here for so long don't have to worry about these changes every six months.

I do understand now why so many people go for a lifetime experience degree, or other ways that are not really legal.

I could enroll at a Thai university to go for a BA in education on weekends and would be good to get another waiver, right?

I pretty much doubt it that they'd give me another provisional with the same expiration date, I'm holding now?

Any input would be deeply appreciated. Thanks in advance.-wai2.gif

Changing jobs will mean a new provisional teaching permit. That would be your third one. I've read reports that applicants were refused a third provisional teaching permit in 2013.

Why not just sign-up and take these stupid tests. Are you worried you will fail to pass them? Or is English not your native tongue?

I believe that even if you sign up to take the tests, until you have passed them, you will be required to have a provisional license.

I don't think the problem is taking the test, what I don'tlike is having to travel all the way to bangkok. They should at least offer the courses in Issan.

It is my understanding that the tests are also available in Khon Kean.

I grew up bilingual with English and German from earliest childhood on. I'm not scared to make these tests, but just worried why most test takers fail.

Just looking at some primary school English tests made by my Thai colleagues scares the stuff out of me.

Some questions have no, others have two or more possible answers. Is it possible that the TCT tests are similar, which would explain such a high failure?

I could make a test in German, where almost all native German speakers would fail, if I want to.

Don't want to sound impertinent, but my English is not worse than that of many guys from countries like the Uk, America, or Australia I've met in my nine years of teaching English in LOS.

Did anybody just recently pass these tests? -wai2.gif

I read reports that several test takers got themselves eligible for the TCT teacher license after sitting test #11.

I read reports that several test takers got themselves eligible for the TCT teacher license after sitting test #11.

There's an estimations that since December 2007, about 85 test takers have passed all sections of the professional knowledge test. The estimation is based on the number of test takers that passed section 2 (curriculum development, learning management and classroom management) which seems to be the most difficult section to pass. I haven't read about other estimations and The Teachers' Council of Thailand is reluctant to publish any statistics of the test results of Thai or foreign test takers.

Khop Khun La Lai....thanks a lot for your post, deeply appreciated. Wish you a great weekend. And also the following ones....wai2.gif

Guess it'a also up to how good your director and superiors are connected to the TCT and MoE in Krung Thep.

Should your director have a friend at Kurusapa, you'll get a new provisional one in a few days. Always good to have connections, not just in Thailand.

Good luck for you!!
