Did my new retirement visa/extension today ... no problems.

Featured Replies

rolleyes.gif Renewed my Retirement visa/extension today, for the 3rd year. Now here legally until 15 October 2014.

This was in Bangkok at Chaengwattana.

I used the combination method of total yearly income over 800K Baht.

Had about 350K Baht in the bank, and a pension (American Social Security) of about 50K Baht equivalent monthly.

Immigration whipped out his calculator and did the sums ... over 900K baht.... he wrote that on application form and checked it o.k.

The 2nd time I've used that combination method.

I had (truthfully) put my Social Security on my U.S. embassy income statement as less than the required 65K Baht equivalent .... accepted by Thai immigration as long as the annual total income was more than the required annual 800K Baht equivalent.

No "seasoning" on bank funds required either as long as you use that 'combination" method.

I intend to do it that way every year at renewal time as long as they let me.

Tip: for those of you who have a Bangkok Bank account bank. Letters can now be done right at Chaengwattana . No need to get a letter form your local Bangkok Bank branch.

The Bangkok Bank on the 1st (ground) floor will generate a letter for you in about 10 minutes,

Just have your bank passbook, your passport (as I.D.), and one of the tellers there will fill out and print a letter for you in about 10 minutes. Cost is 200 Baht.

Not sure if other Thai banks will do this, but Bangkok Bank will do the letters right there in Chaengwattana as you wait (or have a cup of coffee, if you want).
