Water heaters stopped working - is there a fix?

HI I just moved in a house with a with 2 hot water boxes and 2 have stopped working. They are only 1 year old. I have pushed the reset buttons but no avail and even tried tripping the electric switch. I talked to the landlady and she informed me they are quite new and also no one has really rented the house for much.

Any ideas? I have turned the water on and off, the dial on and off, the test switch on and off..etc.

Thank you!

Three options:

  1. The heater
  2. The water pressure
  3. The electrical supply

Since both appear to have failed together then it's unlikely to be 1.

Is there a good water flow from the shower head? No? Check the pump, and clean out any filters on the heaters.

Is there a 'power' lamp on the heater? Does it come on?

Hi the water flow seems fine. Should be strong enough to trigger it. The lights for the powder don't go on. In the past I have installed one myself Based on info from here. . Was so handy to have the info. So now where would I start to look at electric problem? House is grounded. Powder works fine. Thank you.

So, the shower heaters worked at one point and now they don't, yah? Were they both being used at the same time when they stopped working? Look for the circuit breaker box. There might be more than one.

If neither unit has the "power" LED on, they could be on the same circuit breaker which has tripped. (?)

Could be calcium scale build up as my water heater in our un used guest house has just quit on us and we do have heavy calcium build up on all plumbing. I'll make a separate post on descaling and see if anyone has any tricks for doing this.

So I should flip the fuse box switch maybe? They are only a year old and barely used. If I promise to turn the electricity off is there any thing INSIDE i should look for?
Hmm.

If you can't get any light to come on regardless of whether the heater is providing hot water and since both heaters are not working, I would first find the circuit breakers controlling power to the units...maybe they are both turned off. You make them sound so "dead" it just seems you are not even getting power to the heaters. Since you said you just moved into the house, maybe someone turned the breakers off when the last folks moved out.

If the landlady is as electrical savvy as my dear wife that means the landlady can't even change a low hanging screw-in light bulb much less know anything about the house electrical circuits, circuit breakers, etc.

You seem to have more than an electric problem as your sex seems to have changed from male to female in the course of this exchange (post 1 and post 9).

Happens all the time in Thailand.
