wai2.gif Hello

So I went to Thailand about 3 years ago as a gap student straight out of college. Back then a multiple entry visa was given to me so I went to neighboring countries and traveled in my work holidays.

I now have an internship at a international school for a year. I am a second year uni student so don't have a degree yet but they have accepted me as an intern. I am getting a non-immigrant B visa this time and will have a work permit from the school. I couldn't get a multiple entry this time as the laws have changed

How do I go about leaving the country this time around in the school holidays to travel on my non-immigrant B visa which isn't a multiple entry?

And also after my contract at the school is up i plan on staying in Thailand for another 2 months to do a TEFL course. How do I get an extension on my non-immigrant visa for this? can i do it from within Thailand?

My whole stay will be about 14 months.

At this stage i have applied for my non-immigrant visa and am getting my passport renewed.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Peace from New Zealand!!

Muzza5:

Get yourself a exit re-entry permit from your local immigration. A single exit re-entry permit will cost 1000 Baht, a multi exit reentry permit 3800 Baht. (I believe that's the cost, but I could be wrong on the costs).

The single obviously gives one exit and one reentry, the multi is as many as you want during the period of your B visa/extension period.

The multi is good for the period of your visa, it expires when your visa ends.

Actually that is true of both the single and the multi.

So if you plan to do some traveling, as in your case, the multi is the best value choice.

When you're on 90 day reporting the multi allows you to "stop" you 90 day clock on exit and then it "resets" your 90 day clock on reentry .... so your next 90 day reporting is then due 90 days from the date you are stamped as reentering Thailand.

Yes, it's a little extra expense, but if you must leave the country in an emergency, it's well worth the expense.

That's either a single or a multi. A wise thing to have, and valuable when you need it.

You should be getting an extension of stay at immigration for your non-b entry. Once you get the extension you can get a re-entry permit at immigration. A single costs 1000 baht a multiple entry is 3800 baht.

You probably have only applied for the work permit the visa would probably have to be obtained outside the country at an embassy or consulate.

You need to get a re-entry permit from immigration in Thailand to keep your permission to stay alive when traveling outside of Thailand.

Once your employment ends, you need to elave the country and can than get an ED-visa in a neighbouring country. You can try to get an extension of stay based on your course after your internship finishes, but immigration will likely tell you to apply for an ED-visa abroad.

For 2 month course you could also get a tourist visa, which will be easier to get.

Regarding this ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ does that mean it applies for the single entry permit as-well as the multiple entry permit??

It does not matter whether it is single or multiple entry.

And they are called re-entry permits not exit re-entry permits. You do not need a permit to leave the country.

Was correcting the post that called them exit re-entry permits.

I left need out of my post but have now corrected it. There is no requirement for a exit permit.

There is no difference for the single or multiple re-entry permit for the departure/dates. You either leave it blank or put any dates you want on the form.

@ ubonje, I see so its just the return dates you put on the form before you leave and only if its a single entry?

Also when you get the single or multiple entry permit is it valid the whole time until you use it or your Thai visa expires?

A Re Entry Permit is valid for the length of your permission to stay.

It does not matter what dates you put on the form.

Many people get one at the same time as applying for extensions just in case it is needed one day.

Nice :) I'm thinking India and Nepal will be my first trip.

Can't pass Chiang mai and Pai though I loved those places. The rasta culture in Pai was unique :)

I will be based 20 mins outside of Pattaya and I loved that place too!

Most people my age here have goals to make lots of money and start a career/family etc.......

My goal is to do whatever it takes to live in Thailand!!
