i need to call a mobile number from my bangkok home landline (first time ever) & i can't seem to work out what digits to enter, each time i try ... i get an engaged type tone.

Assuming you have the right number, that's how you do it.

If you're using a phone in a condo or hotel, you may have to use an access code, usually 9, to get an outside dial tone and then dial the mobile number.
