Rimmer
Pattaya Police Station fails snap inspection from new regional commander PATTAYA:--Newly installed Region 2 police commander Lt. Gen. Kawee Suphanant wasted no time in slapping down on his highest-profile police station, dropping in on Pattaya’s headquarters to find dirty jail cells and flooded toilets. Arriving after midnight Oct. 5, Kawee appeared visibly disgusted as he stormed out of the dirty and stinking restrooms only to find the second-floor jail just as unpleasant. An embarrassed Pattaya Superintendent Lt. Col. Suwan Cheaonawinthawat, who scrambled out of his Soi 9 apartment to meet his boss, was told to immediately clean the entire station. Kawee had been on-site earlier in the day to dispatch 300 officers for a publicity crime sweep, but rain put a damper on those plans, leaving the commander to simply dispense his philosophy of what a professional police officer should look like. Accompanied by Chonburi Superintendent Maj. Gen. Khatcha Thatsart and Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome, Kawee told officers to dress neatly, tuck in their shirts and wear red whistles around their neck. Kerryd
Hmmmm - did somebody forget to forward certain matters relating to "tea" to a certain new superior, resulting in a surprise inspection and public smack-down of the "forgetful" underling ?

wwex
the inside of the cells are maintained by a few long term prisoners, mostly ladyboys, who get free yaabaa in return for selling it to the inmates. a policeman drops off the yaabaa and collects the money from sales every evening. thats the only time they normally enter the cells. at least thats the way it was a couple of years ago. Yes but at time it was made clearly that he was fired as Pattaya's police Superintendent, not send to an inactive post, and that he got only short notice to empty his desk. I'm really looking forward to know more about that story.

thaidel48
At last a police chief that checks the bogs! Now if only could clean the sewer that is mostly the rest of the city how wonderful life would be ! But on a more serious note . The state of most jail cells in police stations are horrific with some of the older upcountry ones overcrowding and a bucket for a bog make a hygene nightmare. drdoom6996
Wear a whistle and clean the toilets. What a bunch of bull. The BIB in Pattaya paid for their job so they can rob and cheat at will. These guys are so entrenched in the criminal actions of Pattaya they could clean it up in days. But then where would the money come from?
indyuk
One needs to remember that Pattaya is a very happy hunting manor for Thai policemen. So once a BIB is here he can feed the pyramid easily and get promoted early. I really hope that being disciplined for dirty toilets and Cells is a smoke screen shielding the real reason he was kicked in the balls for. For example maybe he had his hands too deeply in the jellybean jar. Edited October 14, 2013 by indyuk

Gsxrnz
Dollars to donuts the BIB will have more than the usual number of checkpoints out to harass the tourists over the coming weeks. Obviously the tea trolley has not been as lucrative as the fiscal budget demands so the collection rate has to be improved. BIB - pack of tea leaves. hawker9000
He is having a really bad time of it: http://www.pattayamail.com/localnews/pattaya-police-chief-fired-in-gambling-raid-controversy-26027Isn't it funny how the story REPORTED is this seemingly attention-getting "snap inspection" by the new results-oriented sheriff in town while the REAL story is the return of a previously FIRED FOR CAUSE senior officer to a lucrative posting? So much for the anti-corruption gig. That sure didn't take long!OK so before the moaning begins about how we "haters" just won't give the thai police a chance, let me suggest you bone up a bit first by dipping a toe into this guy's recent history - READ the linked article. THEN, if you can keep a straight face long enough to do it, tell us what a positive sign of sweeping reform this "snap inspection" of bathrooms and shirt tails by a recently disgraced and now reappointed senior officer really represents.
