Austrian man jumps to his death from Bangkok apartment

Yeah, where I come from we dont release the name to the media until it is confirmed that the family has been notified... and we never show gratuitious gore that benefits absolutely no one.

In this case I'll go ahead and claim our way is in fact better.

Specially at crimes I think it is good to tell the name.

In Europe we are already so political correct that most newspapers don't tell the nationality of a criminal unless he is European.

Why make it secret?

On suicide of course it makes less sense, but it isn't job of newspapers to keep things secret.

It's not their job to keep secrets.

Then again, it's not their job not to curse, lie or feature pornography either. But they somehow manage to be respectful in that manner.

In what way is it helpful for the general public to know the name of a murder victim before the family has been notified?

This is pretty far from the bleeding edge of political correctness. I didn't even see that one coming.

If you censor the press...where do you start and where do you end?

Better have a few ugly things in the press.

I never claimed they should be censored.

I had a friend that jumped, in our home country. It was not a true surprise, becase had tried that already many years before. His life was only apparently normal, in reality he was delusional, insecure and generally worn out by unbearable stress.

I think that when one is on that path, being in Thailand only accelerates the process.

Not a good feeling to die in a foreign country. Why can't we just come to thailand, enjoy holiday then go home safely?

some people may have nothing to return to .........sad but true

it reminds me of another young guy whos looks more or less on the verge of suicide

came here to avoid a police charge a few years ago and became broke and now homeless

in his twenties (owed money to a drug dealer who was going to kill him if he stayed where he was so not too much choice )

i met him crying in a park one day ,gave him some money but that wont last him long

im not a millionaire so i cant help him indefinately but hes another one whos stuck between a rock and a hard place

for mistakes he made when he was younger

there is no support for people in these situations ,forget about the embassys if you think they might be any use

We read here about how we talk, must be respectful in case a relative is reading, YET, a photo of his blood and guts are allowed. I really don't understand. sad.png

I wad watching a sitcom the other day, and the guys tivo kept recommending women's programming and gay programs. Everytime he said "gay", it was bleeped out. Cigarette smoking in the Simpson's cartoon - blacked out.

But yeah, blood and gore, front page news!!

-*I typed this myself*-

Yes - he did jump. It happened a few metres from my apartment and he landed a good few metres from the base of his block. I heard his yell and then a heavy thump.

The photo is taken after he was moved (he landed face down). No one else was in his apartment that one could see so I'd say - for once- the report is correct.

Unfortunately it took about 15 minutes before the first wailing 'ambulance' arrived and the guys didn't have a clue about medical aid - no effort to establish a pulse or if he was breathing. The second real ambulance arrived after another 5 minutes and they tried to revive him without success.

Having said that I feel that the guy died a minute or two after he landed and he must have wanted to end it anyway. I hope he has found a better place without whatever caused him to jump.

If the guy jumped voluntarily, then why would he yell?

I would guess that unless he was falling to his death in great fear because he did not want to die, then the guy had no reason to yell, unless the situation was forced upon him.

If I were the police investigating this case, I would call you as a witness and look into this a lot further.

Wow. A suicide can't yell at his last moment ? We're human not robots.

The police din not investigated anything, and you are talking nonsense.

They probably jump in Thailand as they know that more likely than not it's going to be the end. If the fall doesn't kill you being thrown on the back of some old pick up will.

In the west there's every chance that a fully trained paramedic squad will be there in minutes and save your life, only for it to be in a permanent vegetative state.

Better to jump in Thailand

RIP but if I were going to kill myself jumping (and laying in front of trains or burning myself) would be wayyyyyyyyyyyy down the list

which can only mean a VERY disturbed mind or... something else

people do do very irrational things when very disturbed

an ex-GF of mine (in Brasil) had a friend who walked in and sat down and talked then stood up and jumped through a high rise window - GF traumatized for years - people who are very disturbed can, in an instant, do something

a long term solution to a short term problem - I'm sorry it came to this for him RIP

There is a least one Thaivisa member who witnesses every event like this on Thai Visa. I am not saying he didn't witness it.
