Hello,

In february I will start doing an educational internship at a company in Bangkok for 4,5 months. (Part of my bachelor education at home)

So I will have to apply for and ED visa. What is the best thing to do?

If I apply for a 1 year visa, after 90 days, I have to do a border run, or can I go to the Immigration Office in Bangkok to get my renewel? (I thought it would cost about 1900 baht? Although the 1 year visa is already quite expensive.) And since I'm not enrolled in a thai University, is it even possible to get a renewel at the Immigration Office?

Or if I a apply for a 90 day Visa, can I get a extension at the Immigration Office? And is there a possibility that they will not give me the extension?

After the 4,5 month doing my internship, I will stay in Thailand for 1 extra month to do some traveling. Should I get a tourist visa for that period, or can I use the ED visa if that one is still valid?

It would be best to apply for the one year multiple entry non-ed visa.

Unless enrolled in a course of study at a university or school here you will not get an extension of stay.

If you can only get a single entry visa you would have to leave the country after 90 days and get a tourist visa that would give another 60 days stay.

You can study on a tourist visa. The ED visa gives you nothing more than a longer stay on entry and the ability to extend it if you qualify,

But I won't be studying, but doing an internship at a company. This internship is part of my education at home, but I think it's a bit risky to do an internship on a tourist visa.. Especially when some people say I actually need a Work visa and Work Permit for this. I thought going with an ED visa was already risky..

It's no more risky doing it on a tourist visa than it is on an ED visa, you can't legally work on either. If you are actually working for the company, even though it's part of your education program at home, I think that the company must give you the paperwork necessary to apply for a work permit and get a Non-B visa to be totally legal.

The company told me to apply for an ED visa. I contacted the Thai Consulate and Thai Ambassy in my country and they said the same: You should apply for an ED visa.

I will "work" under supervision, since I'm still learning. I will not get paid or anything.

I will just try to get a 1 year Visa an make a border run after 90 days.
