Advice needed on new eliectricity supply to house..

Hi,I bought a house which has been part of another property which has always had its electric supply from the main house.ive now got the land separated on a new chanotte and require a new electric supply and meter from the electric company installing.

As far as I can make out the new supply will suffice with a 15/45 15 amp meter ,which will be apx 4700 baht from the PEA.

IM presuming now that I will first need to get an electrician in to make sure the house I has a safe set up before the PEA will connect the meter.??

Also is it my responsibility to pay for the wiring etc from the meter on the pole outside the house to the consumer unit??and have an electrician do this for me??

Last question,do the Pea put the meter on the pole first or do they come to do this once everything is ready from the house to the meter.??

Any advice would be greatly appreciated..oh and my location is Pattaya.

Thanks very much...

Those things can vary depending on your location (and not sure about Pattaya). As long as you have the separate "chanotte" for your property, you should be good to go. Yes, most PEA will require you to supply the cable from the meter to your CU and, in my experience, will supply the meter whenever you work out the project with them. I've never been "inspected" but others have. The best resource for this will be the PEA - just go talk to them.

+1 ^^^

You will need a Tabien Baan (blue book) for the separated home before you can get an official supply. If you don't have one yet you can get a construction supply, but the power is billed at the commercial rate (about twice the normal).

PEA will put the meter on the pole, you can also get them to run the cable and poles if needed to your CU for a fee (your man will likely be cheaper).

PEA will send an inspector to look at the installation before they will complete the job. Exactly how this will work I don't know as we initially got the house hooked to the construction supply and PEA changed the meter after their man had been. The inspection was cursory although the inspector looked carefully at our earthing arrangements and then spent an hour gassing with the Missus.

Thankyou both very much for your replies.

I have the blue book and contacted the PEA with that and the new chanotte,

Just after I posted yesterday a guy connected with the PEA turned up at the house and measured 15 meters from the nearest pole to the consumer unit,he said the 15/45 supply would be ok for the house.

I have 2 air cons currently,a swimming pool pump @ 750 watts,2 x 6 kW water heaters,(shower)plus the usual appliances,tv fridges etc.he said this would be fine and could also add an extra AIRCON unit or 3 in the future.his quote was 12.000 baht to wire from the pole,15 meters cable and needed to sort a ground earth out, otherwise the installation would not pass.

Not sure if this price is reasonable or I should ask another electrician for a quote,???

Total will be apx 17.000 after paying for meter installation and his work...

Thankyou....

If he's using copper 25mm2 wire from a good brand (e.g. Bangkok Cable) that's a little high price, but reasonable.

If that's using Aluminum 25mm2, it's way expensive.

Sounds like the farang price to me. I bought my own cable and got a local spark to string from the meter to my CU for 700 baht (1/2 day) - I gave him 1000 anyway. Not sure what "sort out a ground earth" involves but probably not labor intensive.

The PEA here wanted me to use 25mm2 Al and can't remember what I paid for 70m total but I think less than 6K.
