In Dire Need of Cheap Brilliant Desk Chair to Buy in Chiang Mai!

My wooden desk chair is heavy and sharp where the front of the chair hits me in the back of the thigh,

And cuts off my circulation,

And leaves deep creases in the skin,

After about 10 minutes of sitting,

Typing on TV.

I do not want to pay the crazy prices for new furniture in the retail shops.

I like the factory prices of China,

But I am now in Chiang Mai.

Where can I get some really cheap but high quality used furniture in Chiang Mai?

Probably I could use a good desk chair, and even a larger desk.

I would love some heavy natural wood book cases, (not the cheap plywood junk)

I could make the bookcase myself if I had tools, but I don't,

You just need a saw and a good sander and plenty of time.

Who does not like wood?

This chair is so sharp, around the Biceps Femoris,

I am having trouble not grimacing while I write these words,

Here.

This is the meaning of "Dire", though.

Thanks for any good suggestions.

And, which are the best used and new bookstores, for Thai language study books,

To put in my new (used) bookcase?

It is getting pretty dire around here.

Chairs suck it hard for posture and natural hip hinge function.

Check out standing or kneeling desk designs.

Can DIY fairly easy and cheaply.

Thank you.

Such as?

But, in fact, this time I will not be able to use one of your kneelers,

I need to sit,

Without having my thigh sliced in half,

Almost.

Kneeling is the easiest to improvise. Roll up a yoga mat or similar pad and kneel on it. A conventional sitting desk is about the proper height for kneeling. The nice thing about kneeling is that each time you need to get up and go to the bathroom or whatever then it requires using the glute muscle which are so neglected in people and root cause of so many repetitive injuries.

For standing then the desk or monitor/key board need to be raised up.

Sitting in a conventional chair feels good at first but as is the popular saying "sitting is the new smoking"

Can google for lots of ideas.

Is there no used furniture store in CM selling mostly better quality wooden furniture?

Normally, the wealthier the country, the better the trash, and used stuff sold in area stores.

So Thailand is getting pretty rich, these days.

You would think that CM, especially, would have a good used furniture store with some bargains.

Or, am I wrong?

A really good cushion?

Yes, that works fairly well. But you keep sliding around on the polished wood surfaces of the chair.

Worse than a drunk on an ice rink.

Best solution is to find a new (old) chair that is comfortable and designed for desk work, sitting down.

I am no Rummy Rumsfeld, who loves a standing desk,

As he always tells the world.

Might want to consider getting your current chair reupholstered.

New foam and covering can really make a difference. Not so much of a bargain because good foam is the majority of the cost.

lots of small shops around. I have used the guy near the Tops Chotana on the road with the big fire station. The road that goes from Chang Puek to Santiam area.

New quality foam on the back and seat plus decent covering is upwards of 1k baht. Somewhat negotiable. Can use lower quality foam but it doesn't last as long or might outgas toxic chemicals etc.

You know, your useful comment here has just prodded me enough to have a brilliant idea:

This wooden chair does not belong to me, but is rather quite beautiful, heavy and made in Thailand.

I would not want to damage it in any way.

But I could get some of that good foam you mention and some tape.

Then I could mount the foam on my seat.

Securely.

As you say, a small piece of high class foam would not cost much,

And I could probably get it from any top of the line upholstery shop, one worth its salt.

Just in case you might have the name and address for such a shop,

It would truly be helpful if you posted the info here.

I do like the solid wood chair, and I could continue to use it if I just put some foam loosely on the seat and the back.

I bet I could get so odd pieces for not much money.

Now, I just need to find the right shop,

And I am in business.

Thank you for this very good solution.

I think it is a winner.

(Still, if I could pick up a used office chair cheap at a reasonable shop, I would not hesitate. Thanks.)

"The road that goes from Chang Puek to Santiam area" = maybe that is enough info. I will see. Tks.

I have a Thai lady who takes care of those technicalities. A good office chair would be a welcome addition.

using a kneeler it is suggested that you wear a cobra-snake-neck-tie for improved blood circulation to the brain.
