Hello everyone. Thanks in advance for any information received. My fiancee and I are planning our honeymoon in Phuket and Samui. In Samui we have narrowed it down to two places.....Rocky Resort and Muang Samui Spa Resort. Can anyone give us their two cents on these two? In Phuket we were looking at the bigger places such as Sheraton, Meridien Phucket, or Marriot Phucket.

Advice would be appreciated. Thanks a lot.

dont knw about the two you have mentioned in samui, but coral bay resort is lovely. worth a look.

in phuket, the places you mentioned are all lovely, and i would suggest that you check their websites and make a decision that way. some websites also have a facility for reviewing them independantly which you should find helpful.

I know Rocky's is nice and if you check out their testimonials they seem pretty good. They're also a good source to use to get in touch with previous newly wedds.

I also know they do a few weddings a year so they should be pretty organized.

Hope this helps and good luck!!

I would try to avoid Rocky's if I were you.

I used to think the place was great when I had just been there for meals, but when a friend of mine came to Samui, I recommended the place and boy did they make me look bad!

They claim to be a 4 star resort who are really just 2 or 3 stars, owned by very greedy drunken expats trying to take a buck from anyone. They treat their Thai staff like crap, and generally just dont give a hoot.

Good luck with your wedding and honeymoon and if you want gauranteed good service for your once in a lifetime vacation, stick with a Sheraton or Marriott.

There are some wonderful hotels on the island. I suggest you do a search through the accomodation section.Top end hotels that cater for your needs.

Personally i wouldnt go to Samui. But thats just my opinion. I went there once. 2 Days i lasted. What a <deleted> hole. Why not try somewhere different? If you like plastic Irish pubs and western style food. Then go for it. But this is just my opinion.

There is more to it then that Jock, the same as there is more to Bangkok then Soi Nanna & Soi cowboy.

Well, maybe he is busy but you'd think he'd at least check!

Friends of mine stayed at the Imperial Boathouse Samui on Choengmon and because they stayed there in the low season they got upgraded (free of charge) to the Honeymoon Suite. Said the service was excellent and had a wonderful time.

You may want to consider Le Paradise Boutique Resort and Spa. My wife and I stayed there on our honeymoon two years ago. It was perfect. The service was outstanding. When they found out ut was our honeymoon they left us a gift in our bungalow and spread flower petals all across the bed. The location is great, central/southern chewang. Although it is in the busiest area on the island, it is very serene. Once you get into the resort, you feel secluded from everyone else. There are not many units at this resort, so there is alot of personal attention. They took us from the airport and back. When we wanted to rent a scooter, they took care of that for us too. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone. It is the best place I had ever stayed at in my life.

So where would you recommend?

willski, someone who only managed two days probably had more issues than just what was wrong with Samui.

Afternoon,

Have just returned from Koh Samui this morning on our honeymoon. It was AMAZING!

We were originally staying at the rockys but had to cancel as they were doing renovations on the roofs of some of the rooms during our stay, we changed our stay to the Bo Phut Resort and Spa and had a simply fantastic time. The staff, service, food, rooms and location were ideal for us. The beach itself is not up to the powder sands and crystal clear waters of perhaps Chaweng. However, it was still rock and coral free, the water was fine for swimming in also.

The hotel is a 5-10 min walk along the beach from fishermans village, again a really interesting and great little stretch of restaurants and bars without being touristy.

So, there you have it, my 2 pennies worth. We has a great time, remember to hire a jeep as its great to explore the island and a piece of cake to navigate...

Have fun, congrats...

Just for your information, LOVESUN is a former employee of Rocky's. She and her husband got married with us in October last year. They loved the resort and he came to work with us as a chef in January of this year. After five months it became clear that he wasn't able to get the kitchen working.... our food cost was still too high, the staff were serving cold steaks to the guests and cold french fries, and unfortunately we had to let him go.

Clearly they're still upset, and it's unfortunate that they're posting negative reviews about the resort to get back at us. I was very sorry to let them go and have no bad feelings towards them, however I think that this misrepresenting our resort to get back at us is a real shame.
