I wouldn't mind having one of those 5.6 L V8's in my pick-up, but I DON'T think there is enough room between the suspension towers!

Small block chevy will fit easy, or SB Ford. You can get a SB Chevy up to 7 litre. thumbsup.gif

Why would you suggest a (not common in Thailand) clunky old 2 valve pushrod engine when a multivalve overhead cam engine is in plentiful supply ?

I was merely pointing out what will fit in a ride where there is doubt. rolleyes.gif

AND, a GM SB ZZ383 ci crate engine will give you 425 hp out of the box. smile.png

Yeah a ZZ383 is commonly found in thailand, however a 1UZ with minor bolt on mods will easily make the same HP and the cost would be considerably less.

I assume your Pick Up is one of the Thailand sold Isuzu, Toyo, Nissan etc....?

You won't find a 5.6 ltr. Benz V8 here in Thailand. I tried !

The 1UZ fits for sure ! get a later Version 96 or a post 96 VVTI. 260-280 hp are enough for any Light Pick Up Truck.

Available and they are CHEAP !

How much does one of those post-96 1UZs go for, if you don't mind me asking? I'm pretty keen to drop one into a Kingswood or a Commodore here.

22 - 30.000 baht, depend on year and condition. for 25.000 you get a decent one, complete with auto gear box, aircon, generator, power steering, ECU, headers.

Hi Trans, I think the UZ is the ducks guts....but the 4.7 engine isn't a cheap buy anywhere . Here in LOS American engines are not cheap, so I end up with a 1UZ that would probably be more than enough but not the latest and greatest of them all!

So, for a radiator, 1UZ engine, auto trans, computer and harness, driveshaft modifications, new exhaust system, LPG conversion.....what's it cost?

I can do the installation, create new engine and tranny mounts.

No idea chum. BUT, sounds good if you are doing the fooling around thumbsup.gif . I put a SB Chevy with TH350 auto in a VW Caravanette for my neighbour in the UK,

I was in heaven.......smile.png

Wow, that is ridiculously cheap.

25.000 for the complete engine/tranny package. In Bangkok you will pay another 25.000 for the swap incl. mounts, wiring, drive shaft etc...... add up 10-20 more for possible radiator mods, exhaust, speedo-tacho adjustments and minor mods to make everything work.

LPG is another 20K, but in my opinion : Gas is for the Kitchen - only !

Yeah I don't understand why anyone would invest in a V8 just to run it on LPG.

Higher octane rating than benzene, cheaper than benzene, better for the environment.

I have none but I will email my chum to see if he has. I do know the van rusted away sad.png and the motor is now in a old Ford w00t.gif pickup. sad.png

Also put similar 6.3ltr in a Vauxhall Firenza. whistling.gif ......clap2.gif

Shipping one in from Deutschland isn't an option? Not much tax at all if you went this route.

Thought shipping in used parts was now forbidden?

That would be a well balanced package! blink.png

Actually it was. Installed a chopped USA GM 12 bolt posi-traction axle (big and heavy) , the drive shaft ended up very short. Coil-over shocks at the rear. Ran a low 12 second straight off. Would have been quicker if my pal took my advice on the rpm range of the hi-stall torque converter. whistling.gif

Why not get back to doing what you luv and stick a V8 in your Vigo, selling the Vigo engine would save on much of the cost I guess, maybe they would do a swap. thumbsup.gif.pagespeed.ce.dtxKiAJ9C7.gif

Nice idea Kwaks but without my ol' workshop around me, Mig welder etc, it's a no no. Just my memories now. thumbsup.gif

To be honest I would never have a performance ride in LOS. In fact I have slowed down on the roads now, ever day someone does something daft in front of me. sad.png

They still use generators? Doesn't sound like very advanced technology to me.. coffee1.gif

A Dynamo and Alternator are both generators...............smile.png

Regardless they haven't had generators in cars for 50 years.. It's only right in the interest of accuracy to use proper, current terminology.

I thought any device that used rotation to make electricity was a generator, as in ''generate''.

You are right, technically they are all generators.

The automotive term Generator and Dynamo are DC.

Alternators and Magnos are AC

I knew that was coming up as I myself wasn't sure about the right word but to lazy to google it and quiet sure that everybody knows what I meant.

I apologize for not using the right term, apologize for my lack of english language. My english is as bad as my Thai and french but writing in my german mother language would on one hand guarantee the perfect terminology but reach less readers.

as for the ban on imported used engine parts. There is more than 1 way around, Just came back from Chiang Kong bang na. Spent a few days in the area and containers with engines and parts arriving daily in big numbers.

Found a 560 Benz engine for fair money and at least 100 1UZ and 1UZ VV-Ti's for peanuts.

Prost...

Cheers

Price on 1UZ and 1UZ VVTI? Would appreciate it, thanks.

22.000 - max. 30.000 Baht depend on condition, look.

Prices are the same in any chiang kong area. No "Farang-cheating" there. They wonna sell their parts and the areas are full of it.

Your English is fine (actually better then supposed native English speakers here, isn't it Ace smile.pngtongue.png ? and good for you taking it in the context it was intended, more as a mere correction in terminology and not as any kind of personal attack. Since there is a host of nationalities and generations here it's good to use terminology that is more common and universally understood so even other readers can gain from the topic at hand, that's all I was eluding to..
