Question on bars open after 02:00 AM

Bars and clubs in Bangkok that are open after 02:00 AM. Did they acquire kind of legal permit to stay open after 02:00? Or is it the usual tea money?

Why do I ask? Just out of plain and simple curiosity.

Most of them pay tea money and there's a few (Swing) that have some sort of obscure restaurant permit so I've been told.

Every venue what is open after 2 am is illegal, except for venue with a restaurant licence or in good relationship with BBIB (BigBoyInBrown) ignoring it. Restaurants can be open 24/7 in TH...

The Corner Bar and Country Road at the Asoke end of Soi Cowboy are open until about 6am with bands and dance music.

The street bars come to life around about 1 am when the normal legal bars/clubs close their doors...That whole area stretching from sukhumvit soi 5 all the way up towards soi 21 changes from street venders selling souvenirs transformed into little bars all with their own quirky traits..Most stay open till daybreak so pace yourself is the name of the game and all kinds of characters come out to play!

Queen park plaza on soi 22 bars stay open as long they have customers. some go all night until 10am the next day.

Its easy to walk straight past Bash without realising as the entrance is a narrow, silver door next to The Australian Pub about 100 metres up Sukhumvit Soi 11 on the left hand side. Payment (300 baht with one free drink) is taken on the ground floor and then you are escorted by a dwarf in an elevator up to the centre of the action. Its certainly the most surreal entrance to a club Ive ever experienced.

Yes, a blatant emulation of the dwarf at the Manumission Motel parties in Ibiza back in the day.

Insanity on 12 goes late too, but that really scrapes the barrel musically. For better or for worse I've lost touch with the after hours scene. So can't really tell you much more.

I don't really go to clubs often but I don't like going home at 2am either and the only places I know that have plenty of late night drinking spots are Kowsarn and the lower Suk area , Phrom Pong - Asoke - Nana.

Always somewhere around the lower sukhumvit area after 2am serving drinks though you have to fight your way past the hookers, ladyboys, drug dealers and sex tourists to get to them.

Mostly street bars and the odd pub which I can never find or remember the next time I'm out.

The only I do remember is the V8 American Diner place out the front / back of Insanity which has a beer garden which never closes and they serve food 24/7 too.

Quite a lot of people think Swing is dire and the closest thing to the Star Wars cafe, but I love it.

It's honest and straightforward. No pretense, no gimmicks, just a bar, a DJ, some dim lighting and people who are there to dance. Best music played by Tum, the girl DJ. Knows her tech-house.

Best nights are midweek (Tuesday - Thursday); not too packed and no tanked up tourists

Wip 168 & Safehouse are dreadful.

Bash actually has quite a few women that aren't hookers.

Bash is weird. A mix of farang couples and hookers from what I saw a few weeks ago. And a midget lift attendant.

I don't rate it. Music is not my thing. Sometimes they advertise drink promos which they don't fulfill.

Anytime I've been in Swing I wouldn't say most of the clientel was there to 'dance'. Mostly sex tourists and hookers spilled over from Spicy desperate to pick up / be picked up.

I can't see why Tuesday to Thursday would have no tourists since tourists in BKK will be out any night of the week seeing as they are on holiday and what day of the week it is doesn't matter to them.

Nearly everyone in Swing would surely come from Spicy they just pour across the road when it finishes and Spicy is a tourist club for sure.

Maybe things are different now but Swing used to be the place to go to for people that could hold their own when it comes to certain forbidden substances.

When you’re ready to crash, your teeth start grinding and you find solace in repetitive motion Swing is the place to go to for slowly getting drunk while contemplating if the last two days without sleep were actually worth it.

I agree swing is awesome. Most tourists flake by 6am then it's mainly Thais and those African guys that always seem to say hello to you on sukhumvit, no idea why.

We stay in and go out at 3am nowadays!

Well there was a guy in there last week who looked just like Pitbull and was surrounded by security all night (morning) I nearly got kicked out cos I dared put my drink on his table (then called him a nob).
