Visa extension

Recommended Posts

Some questions first:

Are you in Thailand now?

Is your visa a O-A type or Non-O?

Have you ever gone to immigration and extended your stay?

Do you have 800,000 TB in a Thai bank account or a pension?

Your answers to these questions will determine the answers you get.

An agent can not obtain the stat document so you will have to do that yourself anyhow. Extensions are supposed to be done in person unless there are immigration allowed exception for medical reasons/old age. Without doing yourself you do not know what paperwork may have been done under your name.

You can extend up to 45 days early (and maybe more due to flood concerns) and if that is not an option you can just do on return (getting a single entry O or making the conversion here). Should not be much more paperwork than you have been doing yearly. Even if you used an agent you would still have to provide the paperwork and any additional cost would just be to visit immigration (and most times you have to visit so just to get you a place in queue).

Dependent upon which immigration office you use you can do it 30 days early or even longer at some offices.

If you don't do your extension you will have to start all over again by getting a new non-o visa or go through the conversion process from an exempt entry or tourist visa,

You apply for a single entry non immigrant O visa at a embassy or consulate. But if in your home country would it have to be from an honorary consulate. With it you can do a new extension of stay 60 days after you enter the country.

A conversion is done from a 30 day visa exempt entry (must do it within 15 days of entry) to a non immigrant visa at immigration for a cost of 2000 baht. You would have to show your statutory declaration when you apply. Then after 60 to 90 days apply for the extension of stay by showing a new statutory declaration.
