PATTAYA:--The Pattaya Public Health Department sprayed flood-hit areas of the city with mosquito pesticide into order to prevent an outbreak of insect-borne diseases in the wake of two powerful typhoons.

Workers sprayed drainage pipes and canals connecting with Second Road Oct. 15 to prevent outbreaks of dengue fever, malaria and yellow fever. Standing water is the main breeding ground for mosquitoes carrying the disease.

To the best of my knowledge, that spray (it's like smoke) kills mossies that are already full grown and hiding in the foliage, it doesn't kill the larva that are under water.

They use it around here a couple of times a year, mossie free for a few days, then they are back. The only way to be really effective is to do it every day for two or three days. Which around our place, never happens.

Don't know exactly how harmful it is to humans, but if you breathe it in, you will be coughing for a while.
