Thailand cannot withdraw its membership from the World Court

BANGKOK, 30 Oct 2013, (NNT) - Thailand cannot withdraw its membership from the World Court as the nation is bound by the United Nations' codes, according to the Foreign Ministry.

The comment was made by Seehasak Puangketkeaw, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, in response to activists' demand that Thailand pull out of the World Court and reject its ruling on the Phra Viharn territorial dispute between Thailand and Cambodia.

He elaborated that it was impossible to simply renounce the World Court membership, as doing so would mean the country would no longer be a member of the United Nation.

Mr. Seehasak pointed out that the nation had contemplated doing so before but soon discarded the idea, as the UN demanded that its members be members and under jurisdiction of the World Court.

Meanwhile, locals of Baanphumisarol (บ้านภูมิซรอล) in Kantaraluck District of Srisaket Province have begun evacuation drills, preparing for whatever the outcome of the ICJ's ruling on the case may bring.

Residents, however, admitted they were afraid of the resurgence of Thai-Cambodian violence and ready to escape at a moment's notice despite the Government's peace assurance.

This government has become so wrapped up in it's ideological attitude that it is able to manipulate anything and everything for its own benefit and agenda, they alas failed to understand that this only works within Thailand's borders. Outside of which, they have no power to manipulate.... Welcome to the real world.

What are you talking about? Where is the manipulation here and how does it affect their "agenda". All very fine words, but just bluster if you do not provide substance to your "argument". Please explain.

I think this is referred to as a reality check. Something the Thai mastermind politicians do not have to deal with very much, as they can usually resort to spin. But, as you stated, outside of the Thai borders spin is referred to as nonsense, lies, manipulation, falsehood, deceit, wrongful behavior, cowardice, unwillingness to face the facts, and just plain old poor sportsmanship. So, the tiny minded individuals who are so caught up in rhetoric, and so hypnotized by a nationalist agenda are simply going to have to swallow their pride, and surrender the couple of square kilometers of land. Save their energy for a more important battle down the road, perhaps. This one is of little consequence and never has been anything more than petty nationalism.

In this case it is the "thai mastermind politicians" that are pointing out the reality check to the narrow minded nationalists but I'm sure that's what you meant.

I remember that the democrat response to this sort of thing was to send some idiots to "probe" the Cambodian border in their bid to swing the nationalist vote their way.

Which approach do you think is the most sensible?

Now if you apply logic to the PTP, the next idiot to come forward will be for Thailand to leave the UN, this undoubtedly would please some in the big world , but would not achieve much for Thailand, as has been said, this temple stoush is kiddies stuff and if the attitude had been that of mature grown ups, it wouldn't have been taken to the world court in the first place, the PTP need to learn to crawl first before they walk the walk.bah.gif

Ah!, so they realize that things are not going to go their way,

they had their chance many years ago to fight the ruling and

I don't think they bothered to turn up.

Some of them act like children if they cannot get what they want.

regards Worgeordie

Many years ago at the original ruling, Thailand had politicial troubles inside and could not do anything.

Than for decades Cambodia and Thailand were happy to govern the area together and avoid any conflict by calling it "overlapping" area.

Than Thaksin made his shady deal with Hun Sen for his island resort in Cambodia in exchange for the temple land, that causes the Nationalists on both sides to wake up.

I should have known Thaksin would have been behind it! Don't you obsessives ever give up. During those decades that conflict was avoided did they include the two and a bit years when Abhisit was PM? No, now what do you think caused conflict with the RTA lobbing cluster shells over the border. Couldn't possibly be abhisit and co trying to cosy up to the nationalist nutters aka the old PAD, oh no, surely not.

Since you never give up defending Thaksin and the PTP no matter what they do or don't do, then why should the "obsessives" give up? biggrin.png
