School in Phimai cleaned up ahead of new term

BANGKOK, 1 November 2013, (NNT) – The water situation in Nakhon Ratchasima’s Phimai District is gradually improving as a school has been cleaned up ahead of new semester which will commence next week.

Kulno School in Phimai District was heavily inundated by the recent flood. As water receded, school teachers and staff cleansed up class rooms, restrooms, and other parts of the school as the new semester is approaching on November 4th. According to the teachers, Kulno School saw as high as 70 centimeters of water last month.

As for Prachinburi Province, the inundation is still worrisome, especially in Ban Sang District. Only boats are being used to commute in the area.

Meanwhile, the Public Health Ministry is warning residents in the flood-hit areas to be extremely careful when it comes to food as 37 percent of food and 42 percent of drinking water have been found contaminated with coliform bacteria. Therefore, the ministry is urging the people to properly cook their food and boil water before drinking.

Anti-amnesty rally to carry on 24/7: Dem spokesman

BANGKOK: -- Protesters will rally against the amnesty bill 24 hours every day for an indefinite period, Democrat Party spokesman Chavanond Intarakomalyasut said on Friday.

Thursday's night, the government shamelessly pushed for the third and final reading of the bill challenging the people's power by slapping all Thai citizens in the face," he said.

Chavanond said the main opposition party would litigate on two points - the bill's constitutionality and the voting tactics to silence the opposition.

Chief coalition whip says amnesty bill passage sped up for fear of parliament besieging

BANGKOK: -- Chief coalition whip Amnuay Klungpha said Friday that the coalition sped up the passage of the amnesty bill because it feared that the opposition would lead protesters to besiege parliament.

"We have learned the opposition's plan. They will lead demonstrators from the Samsen railway station and Urupong Intersection to besiege parliament at 8 am to prevent the third-reading vote," Amnuay said.

"We have sent our people to infiltrate the demonstrators so we learned of the plan."

"We didn't plan in advance to force for this," Amnuay said.

Pheu Thai to not punish four red-shirt MPs for abstaining
November 1, 2013 1:56 pm

BANGKOK: -- The Pheu Thai Party will not punish four red-shirt MPs who abstained in the amnesty bill vote, party spokesman Prompong Nopparit said.

The four - Natthawut Saikaur, Weng Tojirakarn, Worachai Hema, Khattiya Kattipol - abstained in the third reading although the party earlier resolved to have all Pheu Thai MPs vote to support the bill.

Prompong said he had talked to leading members of the party and they understood that the four had to keep their ideology and stand as well as their words given to red-shirt people.

Moreover, the bill was passed with a high number of votes so the abstention did not cause any damage.

Anti-ICJ protesters seek to renounce the court's power in temple case

SI SA KET, 1 November 2013 (NNT) - Protesters have gathered in the border province of Si Sa Ket to seek to renounce the authority of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over the Phra Viharn Temple case.

Around 60 anti-ICJ demonstrators led by Weeraphol Sopha are launching a proactive campaign against the World Court's final words on Thailand's dispute with Cambodia over the disputed area around the temple.

Core protesters have threatened to escalate their protest if the ICJ decides to grant the land adjacent to the temple to Cambodia on November 11.

Army chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha earlier said that protesters would not be authorized to gather in strategically sensitive areas near the border as their presence would block the security forces’ movements.

Last week Thailand and Cambodia jointly vowed that there would be no conflict along the border no matter what the much-awaited ruling was.

Kokaew says he voted for amnesty bill because he respects majority's decision
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Pheu Thai MP and red-shirt leader Kokaew Pikulthong has defended his decision in backing the amnesty bill, saying he had to respect the majority decision of party MPs.

Kokaew posted a message on his Facebook wall that he weighed the pros and cons and made a decision at just 3 am Friday morning before the voting on Article 3.

The article 3 seeks to grant blanket amnesty to all sides.

Kokaew said in the message that he felt very painful to vote for the article in the second reading and for the bill in the third reading but he had to respect the decision of the party.

He said red-shirt people, who became disillusion in him, can scold him anyway they like.
