It looks like you need a government stamp of approval to get almost any job in the UK these days.

This Big Brother 'creep' as I'd call it is now extending it's way into ever increasing aspects of the workplace in the UK.

First it was introduced to stop sex offenders working with children, you now need full background checks to become a janitor in a office building.

All of this legislation has of course been introduced by the previous Labour government during their long term in office.

One will be extremely hard pressed to get the Thai police to do such an investigation and/or sign their name to it.

This is a standard service offered by the Thai Police.

Indeed; looks like "a standard service offered by the Thai Police."

But, it also looks like the result of an internet search. Have you actually tried this?

Let us know how it goes!

I obtained a police clearance letter from these same people in order to apply for a temporary resident visa in Vietnam in 2010...and I did it by mail from Hanoi...

Curt1591, as is becoming fairly apparent, is a bit of a demagogue who has 'gone troppo'. Yes the Thai police issue such letters/certificates. If you are resident in Thailand its a fairly straightforward if time-consuming procedure (I applied for mine last week). you just go to building 25 at Pattumwan Police HQ with a letter from the school, a Thai speaker (part of the form has to be filled in in Thai) and 100 Baht as your friend is presumably resident abroad it gets quite complicated. Google 'Thai Police clearance' and click on the American embassy's website or try bangkok.usembassy.gov/root/pdfs/thaipoliceapr09.pdf . The only bit that's incorrect is the bit that says the service is free - it now costs 100 Baht.

I have been cynical and sarcastic all my life. I have hardly 'gone troppo'.

I have, however, had plenty of experience dealing with the administrative workings of different Thai government agencies. "Frustrating' would be an understatement.

Dealing with almost anything 'administrative', in Thailand, is rarely straight forward. In most cases, it will involve being passed, from one agency, to another, often winding up back where you started. "Oh; you mean you want me to do it ?!"

Possibly, in the case of the Police Clearance Service Center, Special Branch, Royal Thai Police, someone gets it.
