Beware of new Parking restrictions in South Pattaya!

market-2.jpg

PATTAYA: -- Starting from 1st November Pattaya’s Traffic Police will be enforcing strict parking regulations along the South Pattaya Road as they attempt to reduce traffic congestion in the area.

On odd days between the hours of 11am and 11pm, all motor vehicles are not permitted to park on the market-side of the street.

Any vehicles found to be in contravention of the new regulations will be clamped and seized by Police until a fine is paid. Motorbikes will attract a 400 Baht fine while cars and trucks will face a 700 Baht fine before they are released back to their owners.

About time.

What about banning all parking along 2nd Road between the school and the bottom of Pratumnak hill, especially near the VC Hotel where every day there is a colossal tail-back of traffic caused solely by the fact that parking uses up 2 of the 4 available lanes thus ensuring that any bahtbus or coach stopping there can block all traffic for the duration.

Perhaps the hardware store opposite VC that burned down last week will relocate. Double-parked pickups don’t do much for traffic flow either…

Not new, just enforcing existing posted regulations.

Yes, exactly what I thought.

If enforced these regulations who been rather good,

but so many "exceptions",

like taxi/cab who park in front of Tukcom and FriendShip every day, odd as even. sad.png

Whine whine whinge....you chose to live in Bangkok or Pattaya or Phuket.....deal with it. There are plenty of other places to live in Thailand where you don't have to live with this

It dosen't work while they are there booking people as there are usually 5 or so Police bikes and Police cars parked in the road blocking the traffic as well. Then after a month it all goes to sh*t again because there is no follow up inforcement of the rules for parking. I did notice that the IT Centre 5 or 6 story parking area was full the other week. So not much parking anyhow.

So many places, but in reality it is the baht buses and coaches that make most of the problems.

Can the police really stop baht buses parking where they like?

I think the clamping will be selective......, 3 or 4 rental bikes clamped, but the working vehicle (truck) left alone!

If there were no vehicles parked at the side of that bit of road it would leave plenty of space for coaches or bahtbuses to pause briefly to allow their passengers to get on and off yet still allow other traffic to continue past.

As things are now all the vehicles that want to let passengers on or off have to block the entire carriageway to do so, and this is what causes the traffic jams and tailbacks.

Obviously any such rule would have to be applied unilaterally to all vehicles.

I think the problem really is that if people park near the market the food stalls will no longer be able to take up a full lane of the road with their tables and chairs! Maybe they complained to the police that they could no longer illegally block the road because legitimate road users actually dared to park.
