I have been stopped and nearly lost my flight when i was about to enter a flight to BKK in London once. Another time I was in Auckland airport with the kids everytime. I had booked onwards flights, but had not printed it out. They would not let us board the plane.

Is this happening wherever you take a flight? My son recently flew from Singapore and (although he booked an onward flight from Thailand, he was not asked anything) Was I just unlucky? Or is it certain countries that force you to show outbound flights when flying to Thailand?

We fly to Bangkok soon and I did not book outward flights, as my husband is Thai and he is going to apply for me and the kids and he says I don't need it. He says he'll arrange a year long visa when we arrive, so we don't need any outbound flights.

But what if they ask me in the airport and i cannot show up with outbound flight reservations. We could miss our flights.

Should i just, for the sake of it, buy 3 cheap one way flights from BKK to Cambodia or something? It is just money wasted, and i need it so much for our kids school

Unless the children have Thai passports they will also need to show onward flights. If entering without a visa the airlines can ask for it.

The best thing to do is get a single entry non immigrant O visa based upon your marriage to a Thai. Same for the children unless they have Thai passports I can't say upon what basis without more info but they will get them if you do. These visas will also be needed to get extensions here.

You can apply for the visas in person at the Embassy or by mail or in person at any of the honorary consulates. Next day service is the norm.
