Does anyone here have experience in using Adobe Indesign CS5.5?

I am using it to produce ebooks for publication to various platforms including Kindle (mobi) and Ibooks (epub).

I am having problems (probably of understanding) with a couple of points - specifically:

1. Forcing page breaks

2. locking images in place relative to text

Any advice would be very much appreciated. Or should I upgrade to CS6?

To bring it down to the most basic level:

Create a document with a page. Add a text frame to the page. Copy/paste your text into the frame. Add a page. Add a text frame to that page. Click on the little rectangle just above the bottom right of the first frame and then click into the second frame. This links the frames and your text will flow automatically as you add/remove it, or as you change the sizes of the frames.

Continue as needed.

There are other ways of doing it with more or less automation but it does depend on how you have set up your document and the exact end result you are looking for.

My problem is using the "insert page break" command within flowed text and forcing a break to a new page. I can do that by creating a new document, but in some books this means I have 125 plus documents to join in an book before exporting to epub, which is unwieldy. Yet the special page break code, or the keystrokes control + enter in numerical pad, don't seem to carry across into epub format when exported to epub...

Yes, it's a real pain. That's why I asked about Indesign 6 - some reviews indicate it is much more epub friendly, but I don't know anyone using it.

Can you export to pdf and then convert to epub using some other software tool?

There must be some programme that will do that job. There's probably a website that does it also.

Personally I've never done anything with epub as I just do print work like brochures and magazine pages etc.

At the risk of being accused of being unhelpful (!), may I suggest that putting your precise problems into Google will generally lead you to one or more specialist forums where you will find your solution. Example entereing "adobe cs5.5 insert page break" (without the quotes of course) as a Google search returns https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=adobe+cs5.5+insert+page+break&oq=adobe+cs5.5+insert+page+break&aqs=chrome..69i57.19938j0j8&sourceid=chrome&espv=210&es_sm=122&ie=UTF-8 which has many pages of answers from Adobe and other users.

If I have problems with any software, that's how I generally find answers - have found and signed up to some good forums that way too. Sorry, but Adobe not one of them!

Most of the people on TV, however well meaning are NOT specialists so you'll usually get a solution quicker this way. Just my attempt at helping - hope it did!
