BANGKOK, Nov 15 – Anti-government demonstrators at the Democracy Monument will march on major streets tomorrow to paralyse Bangkok’s traffic system, Interior Minister Charupong Ruangsuwan predicted yesterday.

Quoting an Interior Ministry intelligence report, he said the authorities have monitored the movement of people in the provinces, especially Democrat Party’s strongholds such as Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Chumphon and Songkhla.

Provincial governors were instructed to explain to people while checkpoints have been set up to prevent protesters from carrying weapons into rally sites, he said.

“It will be a battle to win over the masses, particularly those who are neutral. A movement that creates trouble for the public may end with a negative response,” he warned.

“We learned that the protesters will organise parades and marching bands on major streets to block traffic. People from inner parts of the capital, under an enforcement of the Internal Security Act, will be forced as a display of civil disobedience.”

He expressed concern about a plan to recruit students in Bangkok schools to join tomorrow’s demonstration and march, saying students under 18 should not be exploited as political tools.

Paradorn Pattanatabut, secretary general of the National Security Council, predicted that the rally at the Democracy Monument and on Ratchadamnoen Avenue will be controllable despite the authorities’ concern of infiltration by a third party.

He said the protest could drag on until late this month when the opposition Democrat Party calls for a no-confidence debate against the government. (MCOT online news)

saying students under 18 should not be exploited as political tools.

Like putting a young child on top of a barricade as a target, teaching children how to fire pipe guns at the army.

Like establishing red schools so the hate against the opposition can be carried into the next generation.

Don't know that the anti-government side intends to bring in 18 and unders. But I would hope both sides would refrain from putting children in the crosshairs. And, yes, who can forget the pictures of the Red Shirts and the "baby waving" on top of the barricades in the direct line of fire. That image has stuck in mind since then and forever tarnished the movement and its leaders.

cheesy.gif cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif And you need a minister to tell you this,....cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

Thai officials just have to speak and it's a forlorn hope that they might actually think first.

This minister likes publicity but should limit himself to one stupid comment a week and he used up this week's allocation with his ' zero deaths ' target for Loy Kratong.

Why did I leave Bangkok 12 years ago? Ah, I remember. The traffic.

Day to day traffic, with or without these ridiculous political stalemates, is still horrid. You will not notice any difference!

Yep, you spend 6-8 hours or more on the road, and just to get to work at 9.00 or 10.00 am on time you have to get up no later than 6.15 am to avoid the traffic as much as possible. If there were no BTS you'd be screwed ...

That can't possibly be Bangkok, as a politician once promised to solve all their traffic-problems, within six months. laugh.png

Allowing twice the normal 90-days, required to fix any problem, here in LOS. tongue.png

Headlines should be translated as spin officers for yingluck suggest blaming Bangkok traffic on opposition

game changer?

Ah.

It's the protests fault. Coz traffic is obviously never an issue on other days.....

So the crazy first time car buyers scheme had nothing to do with the traffic problems!!!

Good for us though as we can buy a brand new car at knock down prices now as they over produced on account of this stupid scheme and they are trying to shift their stocks now!!

The little chap may have been young but there is no doubting that he was the most intelligent participant in the rally which aimed to install a dictator in the name of democracy.

Was there earlier this week and went from Mo chit to Phloen chit on the BTS which was crowed as usual then back on the bus.

The traffic on the road looked to be lighter than usual.

Possibly because some were at protests and others left their cars at home anticipating bad traffic.

So possibly the protests could get some of the private cars off the road.

The red shirts seemed to like the idea in 2010.

Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Why, did they call out entire schools to march with them and have them stuck all day to listening to Jatuporn? Which is the nearest alternative I can think of and that didn't happen so it looks like your post is just another, crock full of nothing of substance aka a lie..

Yingluck needs to understand that people are fed up with her lies. Apologizing and getting rid of some of her corrupt ministers would be a good start to ease the pressure.

So what? Are you now going to tell us that there is a rule banning people from posting before a given time?

Government and police told us there are just a 1200 protester and the numbers are expected to get lower.

Another white lie or hopeful thinking, or did they give the dear leader in Dubai the wrong numbers....like they did for Hitler in the bunker.

Thaksin: "how serious are the demonstrations"

crony: "just a few trouble-maker"

Thaksin: "so nothing to be too concerned"

crony: "no, people, north, south, east, west and center love you. According to the latest poll 98 % love you"
