Tourist Visa Help!

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm a little confused about what visa I need to get for my trip to Thailand, wondering if anyone can help?

I am flying into bangkok and staying 1 night before then travelling overland to Cambodia, as I'm from the UK I believe I qualify for the visa exemption, so wouldn't need a via for this short stay. After spending 12 nights in Cambodia I am flying back to Bangkok and will be spending 5 weeks (35 nights) in Thailand. This is obviously 5 nights longer than you are allowed to stay on the visa exemption, so does anyone know if I need to apply for a tourist visa with double entry to cover both stays or can I do a mix & match of visa exemption for my one night layover with a tourist visa single entry for my 5 week stay?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

You will need a visa if you are planning to travel overland.

The airline have the right to refuse you boarding if you don't have a visa or a air ticket out from Thailand within 30 days.

I would recommend you to buy a air ticket to Cambodia, then you will not have to get the visa.

If you want to do the overland trip, do it on your way back.

Every time you enter Thailand you will receive a 30 day visa exempt stamp that can be "extended" by 7 days at immigrations for 1.900 baht.

Actually believe a visa to Cambodia would make airline happy as the requirement is paperwork for next country. As this is required no extra cost. Then obtain Thai tourist visa while in Cambodia. But the added cost of a two entry tourist visa to Thailand from UK should not be much extra cost for such a trip and be 100 percent sure.

Get a double entry tourist visa before you come and avoid all of the hassle. Obtaining a tourist visa as Lop said above is possible, but it would have to be applied for at the Embassy in Phnom Penh and the current wait for the visa is 4 days. If you come back to Thailand and enter on a visa exempt entry you will have to go to immigration and apply for and extension, cost 1900 baht, which will be denied and you will get 7 days to clear out. If the small added cost of the tourist visa is out of your budget then maybe you should reconsider your vacation plans.

as wayned posted. get a double entry tourist visa prior to leaving £50

Actually visas can be obtained from travel offices outside of Phnom Penh from my understanding and he is staying in country 12 days so likely would be plenty of time but agree if getting a single entry to Thailand making that a 2 entry in UK would solve everything with no extra hassle.

Maybe I'm wrong with this other's will tell.

Get a double entry in England just before you leave, don't fill out the visa section on the form when on the plane and you will get a 30 day on arrival then go to Cambodia and use your Double entry when you fly back into BKK. Your 30 day on arrival one will give you cart blanch to go wherever you want in Thailand till you leave a couple of day's later. I cant see a problem. Where does it say that you have to use your visa only must be started before it run's out. That will give you 120 day's to do what you want

A two entry visa allows him to use one for the first entry and another for the second entry and each entry allows up to 60 day stay so there is no need for a visa exempt entry at all.

I recall someone posting on here that the immigration official refused him a visa exempt stamp because he had a visa in his passport. That particular official said that since the visa was there it had to be used. Visa exempt stamps he argued are for people who qualify and do not have a visa. Not sure whether this is the official rule or just his personal opinion. But in general the one wearing the uniform decides.
