My employer in Thailand extended my work contract; effect on work permit and extension of stay?

Hello. I am a TESOL-certified English teacher at a university in the Isaan area of Thailand. I'm an "upper-middle-aged" fellow who started a new teaching career after about twenty-five years in the information technology field in the USA.

My question concerns the appropriate time to take action to re-sync the expiration dates of my work contract, work permit, and extension-of-stay.

First, here is the background:

26-May-2013 arrived in Thailand on a 90-day non-immigrant B visa.

1-June-2013 received a 1-year contract with university; contract expires 31-May-2014.

1-June-2013 began work on a work permit that expires on 31-May-2014.

16-August-2013 received extension-of-stay from Immigration that expires on 31-May-2014.

Then, just four months after arriving ...

1-October-2013 the university gave me a new 1-year work contract with the period 1-October-2013 to 31-September-2014. I think this was done to align the contract period with the fiscal calendar of the university. The new contract mentions nothing about it superseding or cancelling the first contract.

The result is that now my work contract expires four months later than my work permit and extension of stay.

My question is, Do I need to do anything now to re-align the expiration dates? I'm not sure if that's even possible since I understand the entire work permit and extension-of-stay process must be started anew each year. Or, should I just wait until May 2014, and then start the work permit and extension-of-stay process again to cover the remaining four months of the work contract (1-June to 31-September-2014)?

You don't need to do anything until May of next year. They will then do an extension up to contract date. Work permit might be for 6 months.

Or in other words: Start at the beginning of May 2014 with the negotiations of a contract-renewal with your employer.

Of course Ubonjoe is right, but an extension of stay + extension of WP for "just" 4 months is a lot of hustle.
