Popular Post webfact
INSTITUTE OF PUBLIC POLICY STUDIESPM's lack of leadership blamed for political crisisAnuphan ChantanaThe NationBANGKOK: -- Institute of Public Policy Studies chairman Chai-anan Samudavanija said he attributed the resumption of political turbulence to a lack of leadership on the part of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra."The prevailing political crisis has occurred because the country has a leader with low intellect who is a puppet of another," he said.Separately, Future Innovative Thailand Institute chairman Surin Pitsuwan yesterday proposed that voters push for national reform via voting in the next general election. Surin, a former Asean secretary-general, said political parties should announce their stance related to national reform during the election campaign.Speaking at Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Political Science, Chai-anan reminded relevant parties of the need to reflect on the crisis.Past protests erupted to oppose military dictatorship, he said, adding that this time around protests persist despite the existence of democratic rule and an elected government. He called for a rethink of the political system, arguing that elections do not guarantee a government's legitimacy, due to rampant vote buying."The elected government's credibility is at its lowest ebb; protesters carry on their activities despite the [government's] pledge to abandon the push for amnesty," Chai-anan said. The Democrats might pour into the streets for their own political reasons, but the point was that large crowds joined them in order to voice dissatisfaction with the government, which they believe is geared to serve vested interests, he said. The push for the amnesty bill was an example of the use of majority rule to favour one group of individuals, he said.Chai-anan said this was why political polarisation had deepened and turned into a fierce rivalry centring on one individual, Thaksin Shinawatra. He went on to point out that amid the crisis, the fabric of society was being torn asunder by an unprecedented movement to attack the monarchy. The country is facing a precarious dilemma, he said, as loyalty to the King, once seen as the nation's unifying force, is being undermined while the government leader is being propped up as a puppet, he said.-- The Nation 2013-11-20
Popular Post waza
Excellent article very perceptive and a validation of the general opinions of this forums posters. "The prevailing political crisis has occurred because the country has a leader with low intellect who is a puppet of another," he said. This is a polite way of confirming Abihist description of Yingluck. Edited November 19, 2013 by waza

chainarong
The planning from Dubai was an ill conceived idea from the start, to return Thaskin back to the top dog of Thailand, the appointment of an inexperienced person to lead 70 + million people, is an insult to the dedication that is required for such an important position, the PTP members have no heart to stand up to Thaskin, therefore he can ride rough shod over them any time , any hour, Thailand in reality has not progressed out of crisis since Yingluck became P.M., this decline has not been calculated into dis-satisfaction from the public, the blame is always someone else, in the poor performance of this administrations management, the Thai people have now began to notice that the PTP offers a sugar coated pill to fix all of Thailand's problems.

Popular Post Thainy Tim
I loved reading this article, it is so basic and honest. You don't need to read between the lines to get an idea of what is behind it. Just simple facts that everyone knows. The Democrats might pour into the streets for their own political reasons, but the point was that large crowds joined them in order to voice dissatisfaction with the government, which they believe is geared to serve vested interests, he said. Yes, unlike the redshirt followers who are normally blind, uneducated people fixated on Thaksin. Thais following the democrat rallies are there because they know that there are huge problems with the way the country is being run. Not because they are fixated on Abhisit.
Popular Post Thai at Heart
This suggests that there are people in government/parliament who aren't of low intellect. Just look at them all. Really look. Maybe 2 or 3 would just about scrape to be above average. The rest are just rich blokes taking care of family. Popular Post JRSoul
While the PM's erudite detractors describe her of low intellect and a mere puppet for her brother, her supporters insist that she is quite intelligent. Popular Post tingtongteesood
She may well be intelligent compared to your average red shirt rioter, however she knows nothing about politics or economics or honesty and integrity and ethics for that matter. How can anyone expect her to lead a country when she knows nothing of how it works ? The fugitive on the run should have put the Chiang Mai dinosaur in charge instead, at least she has some idea how to do things, but since she is ugly he decided to use the pretty vacant one instead.
Loles
This was a very big mistake to order red shirt dirty lop to come to BKK. Off course this wasn't Yingluck and her very smart and grabby team. Off course not. the STORM is coming.

Halion
Very true indeed, however, it is really not only the attributes of poor leadership that has caused this situation . It is the perverse culture that this government has brought into focus that is the root of the mater. It is one thing being stupid but being derisive is a horse of a different color. bigbamboo
This is a bit unfair. Everybody on both sides knew that Yingluck was not put there by her brother to lead the country but to be it's public face. If Toyota goes to a motor show and can't sell a car you blame the sales manager not the pretty girl draped all over it.

I would disagree with your comment that that PTP Members have no heart to stand up to Thaksin. My analysis is his party are far more interested in how much they can get due to corruption from being in power. Likewise their electorate are more interested in the baht today (at the time of voting) rather than what holistic plans the Government has to revive and restore the Country to the greatness which it is capable of. Sadly, with this short term self interest, running across the spectrum of society, very little will change in the near future. You have a megalomaniac trying to run the Country remotely offering the electorate all sorts of crackpot sweetners, which is bringing the Country down, through the offices of an exceptionally weak Prime Minister who seems incapable of thinking for herself, supported by an outrageously corrupt bunch of so called politicians who are not only happy to rob their Country blind, but frequently feel it is acceptable to lie about various situations that are important to the electorate, without realising anyone with 2 ounces of brain can see right through them and feel insulted with all their swindling and untruths. Okay, got that out and feel much better, time for a lie down me thinks.
Popular Post virtualtraveller
She will go down in history as the worst democratic leader we've ever had. I'm trying to think what it would be like for her if she had a street movement financed by someone shady forcing her to send in the army and spill blood. Everything going wrong is largely of this administration's making and the funny thing is, she's had so little to do with it. But, the buck stops at the PMs desk. And she, officially, is the PM.
Baerboxer
Where are all the usual pro PTP posters to defend her? The ones who must believe she is the power, makes all the decisions and plays all the shots. A little help from the caddy via Skype. Come on guys and gals, jump to her defense : - successful business woman, Master's Degree from US university, combines roles of PM/DM and still finds time to make more overseas trips than any other world leader, negotiates amazing G2G rice sales (but can't reveal, or even remember, the details - buyers want secrecy you see), makes some very "entertaining" speeches and has devised a wonderful new TV show. Of course Thaksin, like a good caddy, only offers advice. The whitewash for him in the Amnesty Whitewash Bill was just incidental and not the real point, as Yingluck told everyone, to make sure they understood it was for the good of the country. Anyone who speaks/understands enough Thai to listen to her speeches in Thai, will know the problem is deeper than language! But hey, she's from the right family, does as big brother tells her, and looks good. Leadership - why would she need that ?

mikemac
PM Yingluck is an outstanding example of a well grounded and intellectually superior being. She has excellent organisational skills and is a steadfast leader. PM Yingluck is loyal to the point of being loving toward all souls, friend or foe. With out doubt PM Yingluck exceeds the necessary skill to lead Thailand into the future. Beautifully written...............................................rubbish ! ggold
While the PM's erudite detractors describe her of low intellect and a mere puppet for her brother, her supporters insist that she is quite intelligent. IMHO the difference of opinion is caused by relative perception. Or maybe not! IMHO she is well suited to the position of puppet, I understand that it was well known that when her brother controlled a certain telecoms company, She was given an office but had no real duties to perform within the company, which suggests she is doing the same as PM one who thinks office hours applies to the job description, and oddly enough has actually attended very few parliamentary debates! About as involved as she gets it to have a miss Thailand type of competition. Very stateswoman like!
