Will this improve my mobile internet?

Just found this on Ebay, I am technical minded at all, will this work in Thailand? And would it improve my mobile internet and calls on my phone? Also I use a dongle in my laptop (Huawei E169) at the moment it takes about 3 mins to load a page. Has anyone got one of these?Any feedback would be great. Thanks.

Do you live in an area that has particularly poor 3G reception? Could you go somewhere that has good reception (perhaps in a large town) to try it and see if it works better?

Are you sure that your data allowance hasnt been exceeded and that your connection isnt being throttled?

3 minutes to load a page seems very slow indeed.

I'd probably get a known, good, working set-up, then try it in your location.

Yes I live in an area with poor reception, and it does work better in the larger towns. I buy 5 hours internet for 50 baht from the 1 to 2 call network. It's just that it's a bad area, that's why I am thinking about buying this item from Ebay. Thanks for your reply.

Yes..did a search on the subject, and nothing came up with the item that I want to buy. The details are I live in a poor reception area in Issan, I use a E169 dongle in my laptop with a 1 2 call simcard, I buy 5 hours for 50 baht. Not willing to start drilling holes into my phone etc as one thread suggests Just would like to know if anyone has bought one of these in a poor reception area and it's helped. Thanks in advance.

Another thing to consider is that you have limited yourself to AIS coverage. Perhaps find your closest mast and find out if there are other possibilities, if you have not done so already.

I have tried everything, bought a small ariel, tried different networks,I have just come to the conclusion that I need a antenna something like what I found on Ebay, just wondering if it will work with the AIS network.

Based on the specs I'd say no, it won't work. I'm guessing you are on AIS's GSM 900 MHz network and that antenna supports 1900 - 2100 MHz.

That said, this topic has come up many times here, and there are local (Thailand) purveyors of GSM antenna/repeaters. Just have a search.

Thanks for your answer I didn't realise what frequency AIS transmitted on or what these numbers even mean..I have done many searches,The link you sent me I have seen before and many more,don't bother asking me to do searches I know the subjects have been brought up before...but I am just trying to find out if anyone has used one of these antennas before...the arials in the link you sent me affect the mobile internet and that's what I really want better.

you could try this, its a usb extension cable and a metal sive

cut a hole in the sive and insert cable, plug in your dongle and place near a window

i used it with a wifi dongle with great sucess

you should also buy GB of data instead of minutes

So your saying plug the 3g usb dongle into the usb extension lead and put near a window or higher up.. cool.

I think i have seen these at tesco lotus. Cheap enough to try out.. you could even check before you buy just move the laptop around see if the signal improves.

Also OP. check which dongle you have.. the E169 is 900/2100 3g BUT the E169G is 2100 3g only so it will not work for hi speed 3g but fall back to Edge which may well explain your painfully slow speed.

I have to do this at work in Iraq most locations.

If it's exterior put some sort of plastic bagging over the dongle for weather protection.

3 mins is unacceptably slow. If you are in BKK go to Pantip and get sorted.
