House speaker accepts censure motion

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Somsak Kiatsuranont, speaker of the House of Representatives, has agreed to put the opposition's censure motion against the premier and her ministers on the House agenda, though a copy of the impeachment request against the PM is required before the motion can pass. The deadline for this is Monday. He did not say when the censure debate will take place.

This impeachment request, as per the Constitution's Section 116, will also set the direction the censure debate will take.

Somsak said that whips from both parties would have to choose their motions on the day of the censure debate, but this must be done before November 28 - the day the current parliamentary session ends.

Chief opposition whip Jurin Laksanawisit said the censure debate against the government was in keeping with the Constitution, adding that it should be allowed to continue for at least three days so the opposition has time to investigate.

Good news, at least the Opposition aren't being blatantly denied the means to oppose the government, in Parliament itself. That would be embarrassingly too-obvious.

Although one might question whether the wording, of the Speaker's announcement doesn't still leave sufficient wriggle-room, about when the motion might be debated. wink.png

Not sure this is going to quell the masses. We just need to make sure the police keep the 2 sides apart in the city.

As to the debate. It is a good time for the parties to let loose. It should be a rule though that the PM has to actually be in the session and country when this is happening.

One more dummy in the house won't hurt the PTP

How does one get impeached in a parliament where they have the majority ?

How? The Demos will send it to the CC court. It's clear in the Constitution that they are the last word in the government. They didn't recommend or order dissolution of the government in their decision against the Amendment for a fully elected Senate, but I do suspect that they could see the motion of censure against the government coming up. Perhaps they decided to deal with each with a separate decision which would allow both sides the opportunity to debate the censure the way the Constitution allows.

What I'm giggling about at the moment is will the MPs in question appeal to the CC on the censure after they've overwhelmingly rejected their recent decisions against them.

Just guessing...

Through carrying out blatant abuse of power, commiting corruption, attempting to pass illegal laws, not observing the rules of parliament, cheating, lying, threatening judges.....need I go on?
