What will be the next move ordered from the boss? Extend the ISA indefinitely ? Appoint the red shirts as an "auxiliary" police force ?

Sadly, the boss has instructed PTP to cling to power at any cost no matter what the consequences. He wants his whitewash, return to more power than before, and his hands on the 2.2 trillion.

The red leaders are back in the fold, no doubt suitable rewarded, and rallying the "faithful". This has all the makings of a disaster waiting to happen.

The key card, as always will be the military. The boss must think he as neutralized them, or is gambling he has because he's being backed into a corner.

My wife and her friends wanted to meet up and join the protest. Most of them voted for PTP last time and now deeply regret it. They now realize that PTP's idea of democracy is a Eastern Bloc style police state dictatorship, controlled by one family. The red leaders confirm this every time they open their mouths. They thought they were voting for a change from the old HiSo Amart elite control of everything to a more democratic government who would represent the people. How disappointed they all are. I have advised them not to go, as I fear the police are right to be concerned about violence. Why else would 12 groups of red shirts be deployed around the city whilst protesters traveling into Bkk are being blocked and harassed.

Something has to happen. Either Thailand will revert back to control via a military appointed government, or PTP will be successful in installing a dynastic dictatorship which they will herald as a "people's democracy" (another white lie).

Doesn't look good for democracy or the real interests of the Thai people either way.

A lot depends on your reading of the Nation "article". Not known for their depth of knowledge of the use of the English Language and coupled with Thidas previous statements that the Red Shirts will all stay at the Stadium the sentence reads thus;

i.e not the Red Shirts, who are given the title of supporters. This is further reinforced later on in the article "Red-shirt leaders from Pathum Thani said yesterday that they would be bringing more than 10,000 people to Rajamangala Stadium today."

So I don't think you will find there will be "12 groups of red shirts be deployed around the city whilst protesters traveling into Bkk are being blocked and harassed.", in fact, quite the opposite.

I haven't heard that the road has been blocked by a container, but I have heard that the road has been booked just south of Chumphon by flood water and may be blocked north by flood water after the dam at Tha Sae burst this morning.

Late last night the main route from the south had road spikes everywhere and then some guy in a large gas tanker 'broke down' accross the middle of a main junction then amazingly locked his vehicle and could not be found for the rest of the evening! Police prevented anyone from approaching the vehicle and attempting to move it. By the time i went to aleep there were 200 buses and cars in a tailback full of anti government protestors destined to never arrive in Bangkok. Thailand hub of democracy and hub of fair police forces !

Wife is doing a lot of chatting on FB, she has over 1000 on her friends list from all over Thailand. Many are trying to get to BKK. Very pissed off if they are anti-gov are being turned away at the outskirts of BKK and reds being allowed through by police.

Also in Chumphon last night police put a couple of fuel trucks trucks across the north bound lanes and refused to move them. They have also spread out spike balls that are creating punctures all over the place delaying all the north bound traffic.

One girl stuck in the traffic caused by the police said that they have been there over 10 hours and the people are starting to talk about if the police won't let them through, they will protest there for the week and close the entire road to the south.

The missus is talking to her now. Not sure where in Chumphon though.

Thai capital tense as political rivals rally

BANGKOK, November 24, 2013 (AFP) - Tens of thousands of anti-government demonstrators massed in Bangkok on Sunday, with a major rival rally due later as Thailand faces its most significant political street action since bloody protests in 2010.

Authorities expect at least 50,000 anti-government protesters to gather by Sunday afternoon, with thousands more "Red Shirts" set to mobilise in another area of the city on Sunday evening in support of prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra's crisis-hit administration.

Both groups have vowed to remain in the capital overnight.

Thailand has been rocked by periodic outbreaks of unrest since divisive former premier Thaksin Shinawatra -- Yingluck's brother -- was deposed in a military coup seven years ago.

The Thai capital has already faced weeks of opposition-backed rallies sparked by an amnesty bill that could have allowed the return of Thaksin from self-imposed exile -- and pardoned those responsible for a deadly military crackdown on his Red Shirt supporters.

The bill was kicked out by the Thai senate, but anti-government protesters have remained on the streets and are now seeking to topple the government, which they say acts as a stooge for Thaksin.

Addressing a large anti-government rally at the capital's Democracy Monument, protest leader Satit Wongnongtaey hailed the strong turnout for so-called "People's Day".

"How can this government survive? How can the Thaksin system survive?" he said to applause from the crowd, many of whom came to the capital from the provinces.

In addition to the amnesty failure, Yingluck's ruling Puea Thai party was battered further by a Constitutional Court ruling last week that scuppered plans for a fully elected senate.

Pouncing on the defeats, the opposition Democrat Party, which is driving the anti-government protests, has lined up a battery of challenges to the government. Yingluck, amid calls to resign, faces a no-confidence debate this week.

But government-supporting "Red Shirts" have vowed to bolster Yingluck's embattled administration.

"Red Shirts also have to show our strength to protect democracy," said the group's leader Thida Thavornseth in a televised address Saturday.

"We will hold a peaceful rally and we do not want confrontation, so if there is violence it will not be ignited by Red Shirts," she added.

Thailand, which has seen 18 actual or attempted coups since it became a constitutional monarchy in 1932, has appeared irreconcilably polarised over Thaksin.

The telecoms tycoon-turned-politician draws ardent support from many of the country's rural and urban working class, but is loathed among the elite and middle classes, who accuse him of corruption.

Puea Thai swept to power in 2011 on a wave of support for Thaksin after a bloody military crackdown on the 2010 mass Red Shirt protests by the then Democrat-led government left scores of people dead.

The government's failed amnesty plan also angered many Reds, as it would have absolved those responsible for the violence.

Thida called on the group to rally Sunday in a stadium in the city suburbs in the name of "those who have sacrificed their lives".
The opposition-led group have said they will march to 12 different locations in the city on Monday, but have not given further details.

As of 1.15 today, apparently the number of registration stickers picked up by protesters for the anti gov rally at all the sites across BKK was recorded as being

417,181 according to their official facebook page.

Pretty impressive..... if true

Given what Khun Thida is saying, why is she supporting the people who wanted to amnesty the Army & alleged 'murderers, and given that she is on-record as saying she herself doesn't support Thaksin, why is she so happy to lead her supporters to 'protect' his sister ?

Why did those of her fellow Red-leaders, who are rewarded by being made MPs, vote in favour of the 'suspended' amnesty-bill ?
