Heads Up: Sony Thailand Online Store

So, I found a Sony product I wanted, but it seemed to be not available here in Korat. However, it was featured at the Sony Thailand Online Store. And, surprisingly, the price was about 1000 baht less than the best price at Amazon (US). I decided to buy.

First step was to setup an account on the online store. I filled out the online form and immediately received an email with the confirmation code. I entered the code and was allowed to shop. I purchased the product using my K-Bank online shopping card; something I've done many times in the past.

It took several attempts to generate the One Time PIN (OTP), but eventually I received it on my phone and entered it into the K-Bank "Verified By Visa" page. It was accepted and I received an SMS notice of a purchase from www.sony.co.th.

But, I never received an email confirmation from Sony, nor did I get an online order number. Once I was done with K-Bank I expected to be returned to an order confirmation page at Sony. Instead I just got sent to the Sony store home page.

This morning I checked online with K-Bank and, sure enough, the charge was there.

So, I try to log on with Sony, only to discover that they have no record of my "membership". My email address (user name) is not in their database! Huh?

Unfortunately, it's Sunday so their customer support line is closed. I'll call tomorrow and post the results here….

My wife called Sony this morning. While she was on the phone I received two email messages regarding the purchase. The first, sent today at 10:24, asks me for further information about the transfer of funds. The second, sent at 10:25, says that everything is complete (เรียบร้อย) and that the product will be delivered by November 27th. I guess my wife's call somehow unstuck their email system so the order acknowledgement and payment acknowledgement I should have received Saturday were actually sent today.

I called Sony asking why I cannot log into my account and why none of the password recovery methods are working. The guy I spoke to was very nice, but he hasn't a clue as to what has gone wrong, so he's referred it to higher authority.

Yet another TIT adventure….

Most Thai e-commerce sites are a recipe for disaster, with many items having incorrect information regarding prices and stock availability.

Let this be a lesson, and refrain from shopping online at Thai websites , except those that others can vouch for, e.g. InvadeIT, Lazada etc.

InvadeIT are superb.

I've actually had quite good luck with Thai e-commerce websites. I regularly order beer, coffee, books, dive gear, frozen food, computer junk and other electronics all from Thai based sites. This is the first time I've had such a problem, which is why I posted.

BTW - Still no resolution to my inability to log in to Sony's web store. They promised a call-back, but it has yet to happen.

Sony finally called this afternoon to tell me that they had reset my account. They sent an email with a link to click to reset the password. I did this.

When I tried to log on with the new password I received a message that the password was wrong and that my account was now locked.

I'm done with Sony.

I have the same problem with Pizza Co. Every time I go to order a Pizza online, it will not accept my password, and then I have to use the re-set password link and go to check my email and get the link and re-set the password.

I set it to the same as the old password each time. A few weeks later and it is the same same. This happened 5 times. I gave up now and use Pizza Hut.

PizzaCo just revamped their website, for the worse in my opinion. I never had a problem logging in (browser remembers) but you might want to revisit them.

For pizzacompany i have a membership card from 300 baht and i go there myself to order/pay/receive the pizza's. Even then they make big problems and i have to be on the phone with the headquarter all the time. They ask me stupid questions, address and much more (which is all on the card) but i always get my pizza's. I always get 2 for the price of 1 with that card.

I don't want to buy anything in Thailand online, it is even hard enough to buy something cash.
