Thailand postmail options for shipping abroad

Hi,

I have been sending several small packets from Thailand to Europe and US and most of these take quite long (most longer than 14 days) and do not track after leaving Thailand.

I am still confused about the different Thai post office shipment options, maybe someone can help with this...

If I for example choose Great Britain on the Thai Post website to check the rate ( http://www.thailandpost.com/rate.php ) with a weight of 100g, what is the difference of the "Int’l Letter-Air - 80 Baht" compared to the "Int’l Small Packet-Air - 56 Baht" option ? The post officer told me that for the first option I could use tape to seal the packet / envelope, but for the second option I have to use staples or rope... Does this option affect delivery time, tracking, etc ?

Then for each option there are additional services that can be added, registered general, return receipt and a third option called "03-Int'l Express-Letter-Post Item" which cost 25 Baht extra. Does anyone know what exactly this express-letter-post option does ? Would this actually speed up delivery ?

Does any of the 2 options above affect tracking ? Because of the about 20 small packets I sent out (all small packet air, registered-general) none of them would track after leaving Thailand, I have tried to enter the registration number ( RRxxxxxxxxxTH ) on the Thai tracking site and it always shows "Suvarnabhumi Mail Centre - Outgoing International" as the last status. Entering the same number in the destination country post mail tracking site always returns "item not found" errors.

Maybe some of the forum members know these differences and could help :)

I sent a 0.8 kg box to the USA via Thai Post airmail on 13 Nov 2013. I asked the cashier about the rates and ship times. I decided on regular airmail with tracking registration. The ship time he said would be 2 to 3 weeks. The cost was 748.00 plus 65.00 for tracking service.

I was able to track the box using both Thai Post tracking and the USPS tracking services as well as another service I found on the web. The box arrived at the sorting facility in the USA in 6 days and was received at my ship to address on the 23rd. So 10 days door to door. I do not ship anything a a regular basis so nothing to compare to.

I had great success with this tracking site. International Track and Trace service

The tracking after leaving Thailand depends on the destination country. UK only tracks EMS service. Registered Airmail, as an example can be tracked to some European countries but not Germany or uk. Usually registered airmail can be tracked through USA and Canada.

The "packet" and "letter" refer to content and size. Based on my experience.
