Morakot
Awful Bangkok Wine Bar Names Traced Back To Single Awful Copywriter 20 Nov 2013 BANGKOK – In a shocking revelation that has rocked the F&B advertising and marketing world, the mystery of Bangkok’s ridiculously-monikered wine establishments has been conclusively shown to be the work of a single, horrible English-language copywriter. http://notthenation.com/2013/11/awful-bangkok-wine-bar-names-traced-back-to-single-awful-copywriter/

Popular Post Suradit69
“Kafelnic’s ability to pass himself off as an English speaker, much less a copywriter, is either a testament to his charisma or an indictment of how clueless the average Thai wine bar owner is ... "The average Thai wine bar owner ..." sounds like an oxymoron to begin with, but when it comes to being clueless, that would certainly not be something limited to Thailand or wine bars. I was just watching something on TV concerning a (supposedly) trendy vegetarian restaurant in New York. I understand the idea behind the name, but if you were considering where to go for a meal I don't think combining "dirt" and "candy" conjures up visions of good food. And then in some cases it's hard to separate being clueless from ensuring the name of your restaurant will not soon be forgotten. And there are some that may not fully understand the purpose of advertising.
SantiSuk
I wish real Thai journalism was as erudite and well-researched (albeit ersatz in this case) as this excellent bit of pastiche.

If, in your opinion, "real" Thai journalism (or more aptly, real Thai journalists??) lack erudition, wouldn't this silliness be a parody rather than a pastiche? Morakot
Interesting point! Maybe a parody that turned into a pastiche due to a lack of "the real", being now the authentic i.e. a pastiche.
SantiSuk
Thanks for the correction. I assume you must be right as you would not have posted this without double-checking

SantiSuk
Very confusingly for the casual reader my response was posted at the same time as Marakot's defence. Guess I am going to have to quit being so lazy and look up the definition of both words! [He who writes using posh words like ersatz and pastiche should be more careful on a public forum, lest he be excoriated]
