New protest clashes shake Thai capital

Protestors look like they have the ultimate weapon now to remove the remaining barricades …”A front end loader”…hand-shakes, hugs and kisses with Police is coming soon ( as stupid as it sounds but true) once they break through to the other side.

I think some, if not all, of this equipment is from the Bangkok municipal gov't. Check the markings if they have any.

One, the army seems less than interested in protecting the assets of the government, or should I say 'this' government.

Two, I have seen that Suthep's title is the Secretary-General of the Peoples' Party - I also saw he was labeled as the Supreme Leader. I feel like I've been transported to North Korea.

Suthep did say he will not be a PM, but just a Secretary-General of the Peoples' Party.

Secretary-General is a very humble position. Someone sitting in front of boss office, set appointment, dictate letter, go buy lunch for boss.

Regarding rumor of sleeping arrangement, they are just gossip of other jealous secretaries, never true.

Its pretty hard to justify the mob violence now it is time to end this. People should just go home as asked and let the talks begin before more get hurt and for what ?

The ones going to get hurt are not going to be the elite scumbags behind all this but the normal people who have been whipped up into a mob.

This was going to turn the moment Suthep alluded there would be violence today and no more talks, this criminal bloodthirsty leader of a ridiculous unconstitutional movement in a totally corrupted political system is supposed to be part of a real supportable political party with the peoples interests at heart ??? total BS,utterly disgusting behaviour and a total disgrace to both party and Thailand ..... yea really worth dying for this joke of a movement I must say.... not

Similar hash words can and have been used describing Pheu Thai party list MP and UDD (co-)leaders Dr. weng, Nattawut and Korkaew. Mind you 92 dead in 2010. Luckily only three till now this time and let's hope it will not be more.

K. Suthep is not really the leader of 'this unconstitutional' movement. Lots of people are just against the government which only talks about democracy while sneakily busy getting a criminal fugitive back with armour polished to a shine and a nice new passport in his hand.

Interesting is how police with lots of barricades and razorblade wire can turn a relatively friendly mass into a mob.

Reminds me of Gaddafi's modest title: 'Guide of the First of September Great Revolution of the Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya'. Just a Guide. Over time he awarded himself some others but evidently never had an "official" title.

Dont you get it yet there is no right or wrong side its all the same BS wrapped up in a different package ? 3 dead is too many even 1 injured in the name of Thai corrupt politics is too many ...Protesters now need to go home, they have had their week of fun and its not had anything like the results they hoped for.

Now the police have to do their job and barricades and razorwire is not offensive it is purely defensive , If they want to see change do it with hard work lobbying campaigning and then in an election like every other civilised country around the globe. Everything else is just an excuse for a power grab.

How could the Protesters walk away now?

Walk away from the revenge of 4 innocent student death?

I hope the people come to their senses.

"The billionaire tycoon-turned-premier is hated by the elites, Bangkok's middle class and southerners, who have massed in the capital in recent days vowing to rid the country of his influence."

This lot are the elite and middle class?

Yes, they are indeed. And they're scared of a government that even pays lip service to the idea of the poor deserving an equal voice and chance in society.

They want things to continue as they always have been in Thailand; they don't want the poor majority of Thailand to even have the right to vote (because..."look what they've done with that right!"), let alone have access to good education, health care, and opportunities to advance. They want the poor to take their "rightful" place as servants and toadies and just shut up. THAT's what this is really all about, it has nothing to do (or only a little to do) with removing a corrupt, influential political family...that's just the convenient excuse for the rest of the world.

Revenge is a fools game.

"without rewards of money, his popularity would disappear"

Sorry don't agree, many who have regard for him here in Chiang Mai have never taken or wanted his largesse..

I have no axe to grind for any of the greedy self promoting buffoons in Thai politics, but at least Thaksin introduced the 30 baht medical scheme, pensions for the elderly, tried to curb the power of the military (thereby hastening his demise) and pointed out to Civil Servants that there job was to "serve" the people without the encouragement of a brown envelope.

<deleted> has Abhisit ever done for the "people"?

Brilliant post. This is it in a nutshell. Not to mention establishing regional university campuses so country kids can go to uni. Sure he was a corrupt mofo... but at least he did some things to benefit the people. Abhisit, and his gang are equally corrupt, (to presume otherwise is foolhardy and incorrect), but have done nothing for the people, or the 85% thereabouts. So I'm with you Dave, I don't get why "populist" politics is wrong, as long as the majority prosper. It is obvious that the only way the Dems will ever win an election is by appealing to the 85% that they abhor, they won't do it any other way in this day and age. Thai tea-party it is.

Can you name ONE populist policy implemented by the "red" side that has actually allowed any of that 85% to prosper? My reading of the situation over the last 10 years is that none of those 85% actually gained much of anything except to get in more debt. The only ones who prospered are the few that control it all.

I do not understand what the hell is going on in this country at the moment or how to solve it. However having lived in Issan for some time I can assure you that the changes in the villages I know have been dramatic. New hospitals in the villages also clinics and major hospitals in the main towns. Roads which were mud tracks impassable in the rainy season now paved or concreted over, now see petrol stations in the village where as before you had to go into the main town to fill up. New shops and houses going up everywhere you look. When I first went to the village the main source of family transport was the "Iron Buffalo" now they have trucks and cars. The villagers houses have improved incredibly and rubbish is now collected rather than burnt or tossed in the fields. Over the last ten years peoples lives in villages in Issan have undoubtedly improved. This is a fact. I do not know who one should give credit to though.

Thaksin.

"But then again, nothing an rpg cant solve tongue.png"

I believe that is a quote from "Peaceful Protest (2010)" put out by the Red Press. It is the only publication I know of which advocates the use of explosive military rounds in carrying out or dispersing a "peaceful protest."
