webfact
Arrest warrant issued for Thai protest leader on rebellion chargesEnglish.news.cnBANGKOK, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Thai Criminal Court on Monday issued an arrest warrant for protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban on rebellion charges.Suthep has allegedly orchestrated thousands of anti-government protesters who have invaded and occupied varied government premises, using force and weapons as well as making threats against government personnel guarding the premises. As head of the so-called People's Democratic Reform Committee, Suthep was held responsible for street unrests in the Thai capital and its suburban areas since the past week. The arrest warrant was issued Monday evening for rebellion charges which refer to his perpetrating unconstitutional acts and instigating unrests among members of the public.Another arrest warrant was earlier issued for Suthep for organizing last week's occupation of the compounds of the finance ministry and the budget bureau in Payathai area.Despite the warrants, the former Thai deputy premier met Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra twice over the past two days and left without being arrested.Arrest warrants have also been issued for four leaders of the so-called Network of Students and People for Reform of Thailand on charges of invading and damaging property of the foreign ministry.Directed by Suthep and those persons, anti-government protesters have struggled to break concrete barricades and cut barbed wires in bid to invade and occupy the Government House and the metropolitan police headquarters after they seized several government premises, including a complex of government units as well as state-run telecommunication and telephone agencies in Bangkok's northern outskirts.Police intermittently fired tear gas toward the crowds who hurled plastic bombs, giant firecrackers and rocks at them.Source: http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/world/2013-12/02/c_132935875.htm-- Xinhua 2013-12-03

Popular Post OZEMADE
Where and what has happened to his great leader Abhisit. It has become very noticeable that he has distanced himself from Suthep since the mobs became unruly. Even going back to when he was asked if he would lead the protesters if Suthep was arrested, he said that anyone could be their leader. He knew the writing was on the wall then. However the leader of the opposition has become very quiet. Is he hoping that he won’t be charged for murder and it will all blow over and the Gov will focus on Suthep now that more people have been murdered and maimed?
Popular Post Thailand
Deservedly so. I sincerely hope this arrest warrant is actioned and this man is actually convicted. The lets see what his stand is related to amnesty then. That said amnesty is something I completely disagree with no matter what colour etc. Edited December 3, 2013 by Thailand
Popular Post Local Drunk
"Despite the warrants, the former Thai deputy premier met Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra twice over the past two days and left without being arrested." Ask yourselves... Who and where did they meet? The PM is the Secretary of Defense, but it was a general from the 11th that ordered the security and the evacuation of the students and anti government protesters from R.U. Did you notice how fast Jutaporn got out of town? It's also the Army that is sending medical personal and emergency assistance to the anti government protesters. Do you think the Army likes being hit by police tear gas? Who do the police serve? Who do the police fear? Who is going to arrest Suthep? Who is really in control of this country?

Suthep has taken the protests down a road that Abhisit didn't really want to go down, i.e. using the exact same tactics that the reds employed a few years ago. Abhisit i believe was "trying" to effect change in a more subtle, legal way by pointing out the inconsistencies and illegalities in the way the Govt is doing things, impeachment etc etc. A long game, rather than the short game that Suthep is playing.

Prbkk
I'm not surprised he has distanced himself from this: the rally is sickening, almost like a poor man's version of Triumph of The Will in presentation and styling. Abhisit would be embarassed by it and in particular the fanatical, ultra-nationalist ranting. But I'm sure he'll be back. Where and what has happened to his great leader Abhisit. slapout
A arrest warrent issued in Thailand seems to receive about the same attention as an invite to watch a police check point for driving liscense. Those (police manning the check point) are checking out the good looking gender that atracks them, and those who might be in violation, take a detour from their normal route. The absolute height of stupidity appears to be the dropping of pamphlets to inform the public of the warrents. This would seem to be another idea from someone in the Shin family. Has Oak been put in charge of the local release of info, while cousin foreign minister is telling their woes to the international community,. and the PM is finding the fence she is astraddle a mite uncomfortable? Popular Post BKKBrit
"He seemed to imply that the protesters could force their way into the Government House." Well... the police just caved in at their HQ. They didn't 'cave-in'; they removed the barriers before the protesters even got to the site en-masse and there was an announcement they would allow the protesters to camp in the grounds. IMO a clever and strategic move that knocks the wind out of Suthep's sails. This man loses face more and more with each passing day. And note that 'rent-a-thug' are the ones hurling stones, bomblets, stealing vehicles and breaking the barriers. They sure ain't office workers and middle class!
