I first saw His Majesty in 1968 and could feel the enormous admiration from the people around me and knew he was very special and important to Thailand. Saw him again in the '90s and it was one of my most memorable moments. His Majesty has my utmost respect for what he represents and for what he has done.

Best wishes for His Majesty on his 86th birthday and wishing many more to come. wai.gif

For the couch potatoes, there is what looks to be an interesting look at the Life of His Majesty the King, being shown at 9pm (thai) on Thursday.on History HD channel.

Happy birthday to His Majesty.

Watched it last night and was a little disappointed to be honest.

After some fantastic pics, movies and stories about his early life it turned into little more than a fairly lightweight biography. Such an historic life full of major achievements and huge complications deserved a much more in depth telling imo.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY H.M. KING BHUMIBOL

Greetings and Best Wishes on the occasion of your 86th Birthday Celebrations.

I still remember very fondly the State Visit of Their Majesties King Bhumibol and Queen Sirikit to New Zealand 52 years ago in1962.

It was the first visit of reigning foreign royalty to New Zealand and as a New Zealander proud of our own Royal Family Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh it was an exciting time for all New Zealanders to welcome the King and Queen of Thailand.

I have followed very closely the wonderful achievements of the Thai Royal family and the love shown by the Thai people and I respect you for the love and devotion you have shown to your beloved King and Queen.

Long Live the King !

The King and Queen of Thailand on board the "Rangatira", 24 August 1962

The King and Queen were scheduled to take the one hour flight from the capital city Wellington in New Zealand’s North Island to Christchurch City in the South Island but because of bad weather the airports were closed and the King and Queen traveled by the Rangatira overnight Inter Island Ferry.

The King and Queen of Thailand were among the many VIPs who traveled between Wellington and Lyttelton in Christchurch aboard the first Rangatira but the only time it ever flew a Royal Standard.

King's Birthday this Thursday ... 5th December.

Is where the OP lives 5 December on a different day as in Thailand, because here it is a Friday.

See when the thread was opened.

Point taken, saw it too late. Who in his right mind reopens a 1 year old thread.
