PHUKET: -- The British woman who told police that she tumbled from the second storey balcony of her Phuket hotel room on November 11 because she was given a spiked drink on Soi Bangla has asked police not to pursue the case.

Extensive media coverage of the night’s events, which included 21-year-old Romany Mitchell’s claim that she was escaping an assailant in her hotel room when she fell from the balcony, allegedly led Ms Mitchell to drop the complaint (story here).

Police had been waiting for the results of a blood alcohol concentration test and a toxicology report before continuing their investigation.

“Ms Mitchell withdrew her complaint after she recovered and was released from hospital,” Capt Nattaya Suwanpong of the Patong Police said. “She said she did so to protect her privacy.”

Police have not contacted doctors for the toxicology report as the complaint was withdrawn, ending the investigation, said Capt Nattaya.

“It’s her privacy and we need to respect that,” she said.

2.000 Baht to anyone who posts the original toxicology report here! biggrin.png.pagespeed.ce.XhpYJIv77v.png alt=biggrin.png width=20 height=20>

Guess "Jumping Mitch" remembered just in time that perhaps there was "a little bit of extra stuff" in her blood that could have gotten her in trouble with the law???

Thanks, Romany, for stirring up even more Thai tourism dirt for nothing...

Yep ! Looks like the seal smells something fishy too !!! lol

One explanation of the seemingly invisible intruder is hallucinations caused by drink spiking. Another is that he was already in the hotel- not the first time an impaired woman has been targeted by male hotel staff with room access.

Even if she was ingesting illegal drugs, her and about 10,000 others that night in Patong, , doesn't mean she can be attacked for it- or I guess to many, it does.

Reading the misogynistic comments on the prior thread would be enough to cause any victim to back out of an investigation of what she cannot be sure of. Seems like the young, attractive foreign women are particularly hated. Is there a magnetic pull of sorts in Thailand for western male chauvinists as there seem to be an inordinate number of them, and they do congregate in discussion forums.

I'll add this episode to the list of young, attractive Caucasian women victimized in Thailand.

Young "tart" Is that a term for women who enjoy sex?

There is no evidence at all for your claim of her visiting a having a short -time location and it was further alleged the attack was carried out by 3 men.

The only evidence presented of her "lie" was CCTV footage returning to her hotel room, which really isn't evidence of anything, except she went back to her hotel after the incident.

Some details from this Stevie Bramford case as published by Australian press

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/nation/sydney-woman-stevie-rochelle-bamford-woman-bailed-from-thai-jail/story-e6frg6nf-1226407207167

"Phuket police interviewed Bamford for two days before she confessed to fabricating the story. She was held in local police cells before the court hearing...

Bamford is appealing the sentence and has been granted bail of 50,000 baht (A$1600).

"Thai-based legal sources said Bamford was being represented by a local lawyer in Phuket but warned that the appeal may lead to the court increasing her sentence by up to two years and forcing her to serve it in an adult prison.

However, following the recent murder of Australian travel agent Michelle Smith in Phuket, Thailand may also be looking to repair its battered tourist image, leading to an acquittal."

END_______________

I know first hand from 3 separate incidents how police lie and manipulate to ease their own way, and that of Thais accused of crimes by foreigners.
