Got to Mukdahan around four in the afternoon, and booked in the Grand Hotel. We took the boy (not Yorky this time)and a suite with an attatching superior room was 2,300 baht. Nice clean hotel. Room service food was out of this world. And cheap. Didn't find much to shop at, although there is a small Tops in the town center. What struck me about Muhkdahan, is how clean the place is. Compared to most Thai cities it's spotless. And no dogs.

Got the nine oclock ferry the next morning. Not too overcrowded, but bloody hot. Savvanakhet was scorching as well. Put my Passport in, and was told to collect it at 15.00. Booked in the Sawanaphod Hotel for five hours . Cost 175 baht. The family slept, I had an hour, then walked round town. Found a nice little French place, opposite the new Thai Market. Big, big fillet steak and home made chips 180 baht. Nice. Imported steaks and Lamb on offer as well 400-500 baht.

Picked up my passport at three oclock whiith my 3month 'O' bridging visa in it. Was told this was a one off job, next time I must get the full year one at another Embassy or Consulate.

Back to the ferry. The last ferry was full by 15.30 so another ferry pulled alonside and said 20 baht extra we could go with him now. About ten ( including us) took up his offer. No problem the other side. Surin at 19.30. Easy as pie. Thanks to Toaster for his previous notes.

One more thing. Found a Pub, just by the church in town, called

'The Chelsea Football Club Pub'
