BANGKOK, Dec 9 - Thailand's ruling Pheu Thai Party on Monday endorsed the decision of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra in dissolving the lower house of parliament, urging anti-government protesters to end their demonstration and asked the Democrat Party to field candidates in the next election.

Reading the party's four-point statement, Interior Minister and Pheu Thai party leader Charupong Ruangsuwan described the premier's decision as a bold political move which shows respect to the people who own the sovereignty.

The party, he said, viewed that any political demonstration is allowed as long as it is peaceful and unarmed but the anti-government protest led by former Democrat MP Suthep Thaugsuban resulted in the loss of life and injuries therefore the party did not want to see a repetition of the 2010 protest.

The Pheu Thai party also demanded that Mr Suthep and his supporters end their protest and vacate state buildings and streets so that civil servants could return to work. Furthermore, the party urged the Democrat Party and other parties to present their election campaign policies for the people to decide via the ballot box.

Mr Charupong said that if the Democrat party resolves to boycott the general election as it did in 2005, that will not definitely derail the general election as other parties won't follow its move.

The Pheu Thai party leader then called for a strategic meeting for his party, soon after announcing the stance, adding that the party executive will convene in the next few days to select party candidates. He said he was confident that Ms Yingluck would be the top party list candidate and that coalition parties remain united. (MCOT online news)

The PTP that has just endorsed PM-Yingluck's decision in dissolving the lower-house, are they related in any way to the PTP that unanimously supported her refusal to step down, only last week ? whistling.gif

Flip-flopping appears to have been reduced to a fine art by these leaders ! facepalm.gif

Or did the orders from Dubai merely change ? wink.png

Perhaps if the Pheu Thai party M.P.s and their coalition allies had been public servants (civil servants) as opposed to Thaksin, his family and their brown nosing acolytes servants, they, *the P.T.P. along with their coalition partners would not be in the current situation that they have created by their own efforts to promote a new self serving political dynasty based upon nepotism and corruption of position and power. Followed by their (the P.T.P. and their coalition allies) vacating of a state building known as Parliament

Stepping down (her resignation) is not the same as house dissolution which she did offer before....this is a great game of brinkmanship and Suthep et al have now lost so much face, being thwarted at every step, they have nowhere else to go. But I wish they would go.

Storm the place and pull them out by force for crying out loud, the end to an oligarchy of inept dictatorship. Toss 'em away Romanian style and begin rebuilding.

They're gonna have to dissolve. This is an awesome & exciting period of time. Unless you're a boozin' expat with a bird you shacked up with from the pub who hailed from the farm...

No more Shinawatras. That's what this is about, not dissolution.

Can I help you pack that bag, ma'am?

Ah, so the electorate doesn't count. No more Shinawatras is for the electorate to decide, nothing more and nothing less.

The electorate doesn't get to decide anything when it comes to party list candidates, they are appointed. In this case, by her criminal fugitive brother. Very democratic, eh?

Of course they do, don't be silly, if nobody votes on the party list, they won't get into parliament. So indeed it is for the electorate to decide, just as it is elsewhere.

Thai politics are full with criminals, Thaksin isn't special in this regard.

Are you delusional? Suthep et all just forced the government to quit. The egg is all over the PMs face and she was on the verge of bawling in her statement.

Your propaganda needs some work, comrade.

Suthep was reeled and played like a fiddle by the gov.

The "people's council" is dead in the water. Guess the deals have been done to join with the independents as required in the case of an election stalemate.

Should the PTP win the election, which is quite likely, I wonder what the reaction of the Dems will be then. Which foul will they be calling next?

whistling.gif Nice try Pheu Thai Party, but it isn't going to work.

The problem with Thai "Democracy" is that it is .... and has been for to long .... a "pay for results" democracy with corrupt politicians ... of BOTH parties.... using money and "favors" to get votes to win elections.

That is not real democracy .... it is corrupt at it's very heart ... and therefore all elections do is to perpetuate the same corrupt and self-severing clique of paid politicians back into government again .... whatever political party wins.

The only way to break that cycle is to dissolve ALL political parties for a term of 5 years (just picking a number) and having no elections in which any politician belongs to a "party".

It's that Party Politics .... a clique of crooks .... that makes Thailand have a flawed "democracy" with politicians whose interest is firstly self-interest and the Thai people's interest a distant second.

The only way to "clean up" Thai politics is to remove ALL the current sitting politicians OF BOTH PARTIES and to have a group of politicians who can be elected once and only once .... who rule for 5 years without th possibility of re-election after that one singlr term.

Do you think they have learnt about the past ?

Impossible.

Surasak Shinawatra is ready already by next election to grab the PM seat or what-ever his name, cause the next puppet clown will be a man.

Have these senior ministers no shame or self respect. Now they laud her decision to dissolve parliament whilst only last week Yingluck said that this was not an option. Masters of lauding their own u-turns when they run out of places to hide.

Blind panic manifested in the continuous flip flopping and contradictions. Probably shitting bricks that the auditors might get in before everything's shredded. A little bit more time at the trough to fill the war chest.

The only way to solve present problems is to return to being a Monarchy as head of state from the existing Constitutional Monarchy!

Thaksin is very special in this regard, one may even say unique.

He went toe to toe with his real opponent a few years ago, and lost, quite rightly.

He has spent the last few years trying to avenge that and he will lose again.

It would take a farang to claim the solution is to do away with democracy.

It's not that it's the politicians who are corrupt it's because the whole system is corrupted top down.

With the dems it's "takes one to know one."

In other words the already corrupted assume everyone else is corrupted

Right now there are similar protests in the Ukraine but there they want more democracy and an alignment closer to the west away from mother russia.

Throughout the globe peoples have fought to have democracy.

For one man one vote.

Only Thailand the elite tell us it can't work here because the people are too stupid and their votes are all bought.

Utter gobshite.
