SheungWan
Apart from your passport, yes you will need proof of address. Have a look at the list of acceptable documents for Metro Bank: https://www.metrobankonline.co.uk/Global/Metro%20Bank%20Online%20-%20January%202013/What%20you%20need%20to%20open%20an%20account%20-%20Personal/What%20you%20need%20to%20open%20account%20-%20October%202013.pdf
Jip99
Metro bank are good if you can visit one of their few outlets. If you are returning to the UK surely you will have an address there. You will not have any address history, voters roll or credit history. In fact you will be totally anonymous! Nevertheless, if you can satisfy their Money Laundering Rules (re address verification and ID) you MAY be OK. Take something that shows your Thai address - Thai bank statements for example. I warn you now, it will be a challenge. Good luck.
Expat7
Proof of identity, ie passport or DL and proof of address, utility bill. As you havent a utility bill you may have to go for an offshore account so take your proof of address in Thailand.
davejones
You usually need to be a resident there to open an account. If you're only going back for a visit, you might not be able to open one. Most application forms I've seen ask you to confirm you've been a resident for the past 90 days or so.
Briggsy
2 things 1. Photo ID 2. Proof of address. If you cleverly use your passport as photo ID, you can then use your current UK driving licence as proof of address. Could be tricky if complete strangers to you are now living in the address on your driving licence though.
Popular Post Pomthai
I always thought it was-: 1. Proof of address (such as a utility bill) 2. Passport. 3. A lock of hair. 4. All your dental records. 5. A plaster casting of each foot. 6. A retina scan. 7. Micro Chip implantation. 8. At least 50,000 quid 9. The shirt off your back.
