Burmese arrested in Phuket for murdering friend

PHUKET: -- Kathu police yesterday (December 10) arrested a 41-year-old Burmese worker for murdering a former friend and co-worker, Sor Nai, 50, on December 2.

On the evening of December 2, police were called to the site of the murder in a boarding house in Patong.

The victim had many wounds, apparently hit in the forehead with the blade of a hoe, but also with multiple wounds on his arms and body that seemed to have been inflicted with a machete.

Their investigation quickly identified the killer as a man named Mo, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Yesterday police received a tip that Mo could be found at a grocery store on Pisitkoranee Rd. They went there straight away and arrested him.

Mo admitted the murder. He explained that Mr Sor was a friend who had fallen ill with a stomach condition for two weeks, and he, Mo, had visited him frequently.

However, each time he went to see his friend, some of his money would disappear.

On his last visit, on December 2, B1,500 went missing. Mo said this made him so furious he attacked and killed Mr Sor on the spot.

He is being held behind bars on a charge of murder.

This is third arrest for Burmese-on-Burmese murder in Patong in the past two weeks, in three separate cases, all beginning with petty squabbles that grew to explosions of violence. Eakkapop Thongtub
