A police official possibly connected to a Facebook death threat against deputy opposition leader Kem Sokha is scheduled to be questioned by National Police today.

Police are investigating the case after Interior Minister Sar Kheng last week received a letter from opposition spokesman Yim Sovann reporting that a Facebook user going by Pheng Vannak had posted a threat to shoot Sokha seven times, spokesman Kirt Chantharith said.

Chantharith declined to confirm that Vannak, a National Police officer, was summonsed for questioning, but Vannak told the Post police had asked him to come in and clarify the Facebook post.

Vannak denied making the threat, saying the allegations had already caused backlash.

“I have already prepared a clarification report to my superiors for the investigation,†Vannak said. “I did nothing wrong, [but] I worry for my safety. Someone threatened me and threw a stone at my car.â€
