EV Charging Stations (CS)
I did try one of my foreign (U.S.) credit cards...a card I had added in another Thai charging network app....but when trying to get it approved in the PTT app it failed. I thought it was going to work because during the process of adding the card I had to receive a security code/one time passcode from my credit card issuing bank just like what happened when adding my Bangkok Bank debit card. I did get that code from my card issuing bank...but after then entering the code to finalize the process the addition of the card as a payment option failed. And then I also got email/text from my card issuing bank saying the transaction had been "declined" as possible fraudulent transaction and also asked to to confirm if it was me attempting the the transaction. I responded with a Yes it was me who attempted the transaction...and then my bank said now good to go and can try the transaction again. I did try to add the card again in the new PTT app but now the PTT app would decline it right up front...not even go thru to process to have a security code sent...said to contact my card issuing bank. I figure what is going on is since the card payment option addition process failed once/the first time that PTT don't even want to try a second time. Maybe others have added a non-Thai credit/debit card in the PTT app with success? Anyway, I'm not going to try any of my other foreign cards...will just go with the one payment option (the Bangkok Bank debit card) which I did get added successfully. -

Beauty and the bust: Cops raid fake Khon Kaen cosmetics factory
In a significant crackdown on illegal cosmetics production, the Consumer Protection Police Division (CCPD) conducted a raid on an underground factory in Khon Kaen, resulting in the seizure of more than 40,000 counterfeit items valued at approximately 2 million baht. Investigators traced the illegal operation to a residence located in the Chum Phae district, where unauthorised cosmetic products were being manufactured and distributed to numerous shops throughout the northeastern province. The raid, executed yesterday, November 25, uncovered a fully operational production facility manufacturing fake cosmetics products. Upon entering the premises, law enforcement discovered multiple workers and a 23 year old woman identified only as Janya, who acknowledged her role as the responsible party for the illegal manufacturing operation. The house was equipped with an extensive array of machinery dedicated to labelling and packaging the illicit products. Police Major General Withaya Sriprasertparp, the division commander, disclosed during a press briefing today that the CCPD had seized 38 distinct product lines, totalling over 40,000 items with an estimated worth exceeding 2 million baht. Janya has been initially charged with producing and selling unsafe, unauthorised, and counterfeit cosmetic products. The legal proceedings against her are expected to continue, reported Bangkok Post. In light of this discovery, Pol. Maj. Gen. Wittaya issued a stern warning to consumers, urging them to exercise extreme caution when purchasing health and beauty products, particularly those sold through online channels. He emphasised the potential dangers these unauthorised products may pose to consumer health and safety. Filed Thai tax online late, got refund 3x
Your Bangkok Bank branch seems inept. My CM branch allowed me to add my Thai tax ID to my savings account and also stopped the annoying withholding on my tiny interest received. I don't have a pink ID so I got a separate Thai tax ID from TRD about 3 years ago. They would not stop the withholding from interest on my fixed account. Have you verified with your bank book that Bangkok bank did withhold 15% from your interest payments on your savings account(s)? It seems Bangkok bank stopped the withholdings the same as they did for me..... only on the savings account but not on the fixed account. That could explain why there was no statement of withholdings (or tax refund) on your savings account. -

Thailand's Expats Urged to Register with TRD for Tax, Says Expert
So far it does not seem to be a requirement, as noted above, albeit before 1 January 2025. It's hazardous to try and give a definitive answer about IMM's requirements, especially as these issues seem to vary from office to office. I expect we might hear differently after 1 January 2025. But a lot of issues will come into play wherein the interests and "opportunities" of 2 government departments do not align. I'm sure it wont take a very long time before RD handles "procedures" in a similar way to IMM. As I've said, "a tangled web is being woven pretty quickly", which of course makes me understand the distaste and disbelief expressed by a number of people about this new "interpretation". But possibly, just possibly, because RD interacts with other countries, they might not want to trash their reputation internationally; immigration "procedures" are a home alone issue, managed in the Thai way. Call me old fashioned, just as with IMM, I want to be above board with RD. -
