I noticed that the article you linked to was talking about how gold have tripled, but it was the dollar value that tripled, not the volume. Why do you think they used dollars rather than tonnes? Incidentally, the 86 tonnes of gold does not come out of the US reserve, and it would only be about 1% if it did, It is really not that much in the scheme of things, unless you're Canada or some such.
