I need some thin cardboard - posterboard where do I look ?

Featured Replies

Hi

I need to make some cardboard / posterboard signs , in the USA I would say 120-150 pound white card stock or about that thickness ,

it will probably be screen printed and will be used outside , the outer surface needs to be "slick" or coated so the water will run off.

I am have a cutting die made now,

I have no idea where to look , it is not something Staples would have ,

each piece size will be 12 inch x 6 inch so 300mm x 150mm and I would buy enough for 100-200 pieces

I have no idea how paper is sized in "metric" . in the USA 8.5 x 11 and 8.5 x 14 are normal sizes

thanks for your help in the search

Most of the stationary shops will carry similiar, just ask any student where the stationary shop is.

There are TV specialists on almost every topic... but cardboard ???

I am sure there are people that print advertising material and product packaging ........

And maybe even have a printing company they use or even own :)

I am always amazed what people know here ,

I just went yesterday out to an area I had never been to thanks to a member , looking for cutting dies , and found a great shop

now I need the cardboard to cut with the die !

Here in Phuket I have easily found such cardboard stock in Big-C, also at the big book/stationary store on 3d floor at Central Festival. The latter has many different grades of such and even has the vinyl stock with corrugated center for very nice rigid posters. Have a brainfart at the moment on the name of the shop but it is a large chain of such and has branches in most large shopping areas.

I know the stationary departments in most CENTRAL department stores carry a wide range of card stock. Students use a lot of this stuff for presentations.

A simple GOOGLE of "bangkok cardboard" got 10 pages of hits....

Presume you are in Bangkok. All Central World Malls have a B2S branch inside that sell books and stationery, and art supplies. The one in Central World Chitlom has a particularly large art section, and sells all sorts of cardboard and poster supplies.

The chain called Office Depot also sells some materials like this.

You will probably find that retail stores in Thailand sell paper in DIN sizes:

  • A4 = 210 x 297 mm
  • A3 = 297 x 420 mm

Cards measuring 6 x 12" (152.4 x 304.8 mm) need one A3 sheet per card, which gives you a lot of wastage unless you can live with the lonter side being 5/16" (7.9 mm) or 2.6% shorter than 12", which would give you one card per A4 sheet.

Thanks for that info , I just measured the cutting die and its right at 12 inches so I guess I am stuck with A3 or buy 8.5 x 14 in the USA, I ordered 2 dies , one to use in BKK and one for the USA

But so far the cutting shop has not been able to find the cardboard , its not their normal job , they cut leather and fabric

Let's look at the practical side of it. How important is it that your promotional material should be exactly 6'' x 12", especially for use in Thailand?

Forget about the die you have already made to order.Your printer will gladly take care of cutting your cards to size, if A4 is not acceptable for your needs. He will probably also be able to source the type of paper you need. Most likely, "120-150 pound white card stock or about that thickness" will mean nothing to him. Give him a sample of the paper you need, or specify grammes per square metre, and he will get it for you.
