LONDON, ENGLAND (BNO NEWS) -- Part of a balcony or ceiling at the Apollo Theatre in London collapsed during a performance on Thursday evening, causing an unknown number of casualties, emergency services said. A rescue operation was continuing.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:15 p.m. local time on Thursday when a balcony or ceiling collapsed during a performance of the "Curious Incident Of The Dog in the Night-time." A witness told Sky News that he and others had been injured, but few other details were immediately available.

"Police were called at approximately 2015 hours to reports of a ceiling collapse at the Apollo Theatre. Officers are on the scene with the London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service," a Scotland Yard spokesman said. "We are aware of a number of casualties but we have no further detail at this early stage."
