Maybe a stupid comment but,

Say what you like about Thai democracy...

But it is a democracy. People are free to demonstrate publicly. This just wouldnt be allowed in other countries. In Australia i protested against a company will a bill board and got arrested for not having permission to stage a protest from the police!

Ive seen protests throughout Europe and the US, and never seen any government stand down, have a referendum, or offer new elections etc.

Something to be said for that

Many people lose sight of a how a Democracy functions, it is "Majority Rules" the political party receiving the most votes in a sanctioned national election, are tasked with forming a government.

While I agree with your statement, in the current demonstration, the demonstrators are using democratically guaranteed rights, to try to form an un-elected, Dictatorship!

In a Democracy, the Majority Rules, a person can not be against and open and free election simply because the Democrats in Thailand have not won an election in 20 years.
