A Democrat member believes TRT can not survive without caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra

Democrat Party deputy spokesman Sathit Pitutecha (สาธิต ปิตุเตชะ) thinks the Thai Rak Thai Party (TRT) can not survive without its leader, caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Mr. Sathit said Pol. Lt. Col. Thaksin’s return to duty showed that the TRT-led government could do nothing by itself and had to rely solely on its leader.

Mrs. Sathit asked the people to know the difference between not having the government and not having Pol. Lt. Col. Thaksin.

Korn Chatikavanija (กรณ์ จาติกวณิชย์), a Democrat deputy-secretary-general, said it was better to have a government leader than not regarding the improvement of investment climate. However, he said the country now needs a “real” government, not a caretaker government, to help get the economy going.

The Democrat Party economic policy to help people tackle their financial woes

The Democrat Party is gearing up towards pulling the people out of their financial difficulties.

Democrat deputy secretary-general Korn Chatikavanija (กรณ์ จาติกวณิชย์) said that the party’s economic policy focuses on solving rising costs of living, debt problems, promoting education and increasing welfare benefits for the people.

Mr. Korn said the Democrat policy is different from populist measures of the Thai Rak Thai Party because it also emphasizes saving.

The party will have more details about its economic policy platform in June, he said.

The Democrat Party leader alleges PM Thaksin is looking to gain edge for TRT

Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva (อภิสิทธิ์ เวชชาชีวะ) believes caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s return to Government House is meant to rebuild his importance ahead of the new round of election.

Mr. Abhisit said Pol. Lt. Col. Thaksin was only trying to gain political advantage for his Thai Rak Thai Party.

He doubted the prime minister’s return to duty was legitimate given that Pol. Lt. Col. Thaksin had put in his leave form that he would take a break until the country had the new government.

Mr. Abhisit was confident that Pol. Lt. Col. Thaksin’s comeback would not affect the Democrat Party’s popularity.

The Constitutional Court has repealed Mr. Suphot's petition for dissolving the Democrat party

The Constitutional Court has repealed the petition of Mr. Suphot Towichaksachaiyakul (สุพจน์ โตวิจักษณ์ชัยกุล) for dissolving the Democrat Party as the court deemed that the process of filing the lawsuit does not go in line with the law requirements.

Mr. Suphot earlier handed a petition requesting the Constitutional Court to dissolve the Democrat party due to the Article 63 of the Constitutional law.

The court refused to consider on the petition with the reason that the Article 63 does not allow the complainer to directly hand the petition to the court.

The petition must be considered by Attorney-General first.
