Popular Post sceadugenga Posted December 29, 2013 Popular Post Posted December 29, 2013 Went for a drive with my neighbour today, intending to hit the pie and coffee place on the Chiang Mai road but it was crowded out so we cruised around and decided to check out anything looking promising on the Khun Korn waterfall road. We found a "resort" that seemed to have recently reopened so decided to check it out. The canary had obviously been well supplied with steroids. The building was obviously a casualty of the late 90s economic crash but full of character. The staff were Yao girls and still learning their trade but the coffee was excellent. The ambiance was fantastic, the balcony was literally in the tree tops with great views. Note the plastic grapes and gongy star, definitely adds character... The band (two guitars and a girl singer), had to moved away from, at least the speakers, but at a distance was very pleasant combined with the sound of the nearby stream. This is about 15kms out of Chiang Rai, just get onto 1211, the old Chiang Mai road, and it's well worth a Sunday drive. They had beer but no spirits and food was available. Six or seven coffees and a Perrier Water came to 400B. 9
kevvy Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 We drove past it today and did not stop. It is a beautiful area. So peaceful. As not far from the city.
sceadugenga Posted December 29, 2013 Author Posted December 29, 2013 I consider it one of the best parts of the province to live in, close to town and a good road into pleasant hilly country that stays green most of the year.
Torrens54 Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Next time we are up that way, we'll be sure to call in. Thanks for the tip and the pics. 1
Rotweiler Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Thanks! We drove close to it 2 days ago, no idea it was there. Next time will stop.
bundoi Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 (edited) Nice tip Scea; I dropped in there today on my way into town, and yes I agree that area is very very pretty. That follows the day before yesterday's loop through Wiang Chai, Phaya Mengrai, the newly opened friendship bridge, Thoeng and Pa Daet ; so by the time I finish the drive south back to work tomorrow my back should be in a perfect state for a good massage or two !! Farewell Chiang Rai and happy new year :-) Edited January 1, 2014 by bundoi 1
sceadugenga Posted January 1, 2014 Author Posted January 1, 2014 Safe journey bundoi. It would have been nice today, Sunday the mist was hanging low which was attractive in a way but blue sky would have made it perfect. 1
sceadugenga Posted January 5, 2014 Author Posted January 5, 2014 (edited) I took visiting friends there yesterday and they were most impressed. The little group of musicians were in top form, the girl singer is really good. Absolutely great spot to spend a quiet afternoon. Service is amateurish but they will learn. toybits Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Those girls are wearing Akha costumes. Yao people wouldn't be caught dead wearing an Akha Costume. To Yao people Akha are of lower caste.
sceadugenga Posted January 6, 2014 Author Posted January 6, 2014 I thought the leggings looked Akha but we did ask and that was what they told us.
scorpio1945 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Went there today. Very nice ambience. Coffee was also very good albeit a bit pricy. Skeleton staff today. No band and no waitresses. Maybe evening? Reccomended. Thanks Scea 2
sceadugenga Posted January 7, 2014 Author Posted January 7, 2014 I think weekends could be the time for the music Scorp.
